Ok. Good to know that internals have at least been known to fail. It’s inconceivable to me that metal flakes didn’t travel downstream to the injectors so I started the project of pulling them back out, so that will be done tomorrow. I found a local shop that can turn them around in a couple days and I’m praying they find something with one of them so at least so I’ll finally have some answers.
I’ll pull the HPFP again so I can get the internals separated and inspected. I’m leaning towards just ordering CS internals anyway because these have over 100k on them and I can’t imagine anything else that could generate the sparkly metal bits I found in the spill valve cavity. The LAST thing I want to happen is to have more foreign debris end up getting to the fuel rail.
If anyone sees anything other than FP internals and injectors remaining on the list of possibilities I’m all ears! Thank y’all

Did the injectors fix your problem? Were the internals bad?

It took 8 to 10 heavy whacks with a 3Lbs sledge in a vice to separate the piston from the collar. No visible scoring or damage to either piece but I would never trust them so they got replaced. I ended up having to send the injectors out to injector RX after being dicked around for two weeks with a local shop (long story but lesson learned). They were not able to unclog cylinder 3’s injector but the other three were fine so I forked out the $265 for a new OEM injector. I reused the CS injector seals and increase the torque by 10FT-LBS.
All in all, the car was down for 8 weeks and I spent $1400 in parts to resolve this but I’ve put 3000 miles on it since and I am confident that the clogged injector due to the fuel pump internals seizing was the issue all along. I really appreciate it the input and assistance I’ve received from the community and hopefully this thread can help someone in the future!
