So looks like the 10gph of methanol wasn't enough to keep your ringlands cool and intact, eh? And this was at ~400whp? Was there any warning your ringlands had gone in terms of compression or oil consumption? I ask because I run 25psi on a BNR S3 and I want to keep everything intact. My tuner said that at my level (380/380) I should be good, and that at this point, going for more power carries a high risk/reward ratio. I use ethanol and methanol, and 25psi on an S3 <<< 26psi on a GT3076r, but it's good to learn from instances like this, you know?

The first sign of failure came when I swapped out valve covers and the new one just dumped oil into the intake. I lost a decent amount of oil doing that and dynoed at 370whp. After that everything went downhill in about a month. I started getting high crankcase pressure and finally had the old smoking oil cap on the last day she ran.

I did have 145k miles on the car though also so I think my failure was a lot of things combined.

Yeah, sounds like it was cumulative and a function of several factors, including the overall mileage on the engine. Besides, 400whp = 400whp's worth of heat. If the methanol doesn't keep things cool enough, ringlands will crack. I think that was the main point my tuner was trying to make - that I'm pretty much at the top of the "reasonably safe" power level, and that going higher makes the risks a lot higher for only a small increase in horsepower...

Small update - dropped block off at machine shop last night and was quoted a 2 week turnaround. Fingers crossed that they get to it early and it's done fast! Along with that, I decided to bite the bullet and go with SP63 stage 2 head work because why not. Hopefully my boss approves my time off for Monday so I can drive to NJ and drop of my head and crank to get ported and pinned!

Sent my injectors off to InjectorRX for a service and flow test and am quite pleased with the results. They came out nice and clean and now flow perfectly. Now if I'm having any issues tuning, I should be able to confidently say my injectors are good.

Good to see that even though they needed cleaning, they were still flowing almost the same full amount beforehand. But if anything, going from a "fair" to "good" spray pattern is very helpful too for numerous reasons.

And my direct injectors had 145k miles on them so I am quite happy they all came out good.

All 8 injectors cost less than $200 so if you don't mind your car being out of commission for a week, I'd definitely recommend it.

8 days after dropping the block off and I get the good news - it's cleaned, bored, and decked. Just need to now wait the quoted 2 week turnaround time for my headwork from SP63 and we're good to assemble and install everything.

Installed my STRI boost and PI fuel pressure gauge tonight, and I have to say, I am loving the @Block8head vent pod!

I'm glad I chose to assemble these before I was all ready to assemble the rest of my motor or else I wouldn't have had the patience. Circlips suck!

What are your power goals again? (Don't remember if you said, and didn't look at the first page.)

I'd be pretty ecstatic if I cracked 600whp on e85 with the 35r but that might be pushing it.

A GT3582r can flow ~60 lb/min. Now a GTX3576r can flow ~65 lb/min and should be more responsive due to having less CHRA inertia. General ricer math is lbs/min x 10 is the horsepower you can expect to be able to hit, though I'm not sure if that's crankshaft or whp. If it were me, I'd go with the GTX, if possible. Or if you had your heart set on a 82mm wheel, the GTX3582r flows ~75 lbs/min.

Great reference I love looking at: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?p=40727288

Well I have the GT already. I'm kind of wishing I picked up a S300SXE in hindsight but I can always make changes in the future. My head is at SP63 right now for their single runner headwork and I'm running a JMF and all so I should hypothetically be able to reach the limits of that 35r somewhat efficiently on the motor side.

That'd be cool. I'm honestly enamored with their EFR line, though. My dream turbo is an EFR7163 - supposedly it spools quicker than a K04 and has the top-end of a GTX3076r. It flows 60 lbs/min too, but has positively amazing boost threshold, spool, and transient response. It's basically a big turbo flow-wise, with the ultra responsiveness of a small turbo. The fact that they use EFRs on F1 cars alone is enough reason for me, haha. Regardless, it'd be great for auto-x, tracking, etc., and I'd limit it to 500whp anyways. Personally, I think any more than that overpowers the chassis in anything but a straight line, but to each their own.

I am definitely impressed with the EFR line, how they're designed from an engineering perspective amazes me. We'll see how my motor likes the 35r and go from there. I can always sell the turbo and pick something different (I'd probably keep t3/vband) if I ever get bored.

This is all coming together surprisingly quickly.

Make sure you watch Enki's thread for more EFR shenanigans. They're definitely worth the money if you can afford them.

I'll check that out. I am somewhat regretting picking up the 35R before more seriously considering my other options but I got a good deal from a local though so I can't complain too much. I know Garrett turbos are a little old school so maybe in a few months I'll change around things once I recoup a little money.

Gapped my rings and finished assembling my pistons this weekend. In true @Captain KR fashion we got some wrenching time in the kitchen in the AC.

Apparently shimming my valves was a larger job than initially planned so my pickup date for the head is delayed again. According to the machine shop, this head might not even have been assembled correctly from the factory. Soon though I'll have it all and hopefully it'll be close to running this week.
