Disclaimer: I've tried finding this info, but since so many folks do a primary EGR delete anyways, I couldn't find anything definitive.

Is removing the EGR mandatory to run the EFR7163 turbo kit? Also, what about a battery tray/51r (I already have an ECU relocation bracket/stock ECU stuff removed from the battery box for my HTP 3.5")? I know the EFRs are wide, so I just am trying to plan accordingly on my wishlist.

Yep. I just unplug for most of the year, then re-plug/re-flash for emissions time. We're only allowed 1 "not ready" in TX and I'm catless, so there goes that...

Just to add to @PURPFOX , for some reason I didn't get a not ready on the cat either and I have the code turned off in ATR. Which is weird cuz I thought the computer was supposed to pick it up anyway.

I mean... the tech at the Mazda dealership where I get my inspection is my friend.. AND he used to have a modded Speed3 LOL! but that doesn't really make a difference i guess when you hook it up to the computer

Well, just to be clear, since I'm catless, I have the cat code unchecked in ATR and therefore have no CEL (I think we're all on the same page, but wanted to clarify).

But since I run my EGR unplugged, I have to uncheck two more codes to have no CEL for it as well, which makes 3 not readys total. I avert by re-plugging the EGR and flashing a map with the two EGR codes (0401 & 0403, I think?) checked so that I only have 1 not ready. Any box that is unchecked that should normally be will show up as a not ready. Then, I have to drive for 100+ miles or so to get the ECU out of learning mode before I pull in for inspection.

But back to the OP: does a 7163 fit with the EGR intact? If a primary EGR delete is required, I may have to retire to track-duty only.

I have not installed an EFR7163 on a mazdaspeed, but I have installed a 6758 and we did it before there was even a primary EGR Delete available for the speed. Not sure if that helps since they are not quite the same turbo, but I think you should be able to make it work.
