I have a 2012 and have had a rattling sound in the driver's side door panel since new. It was legit the only rattle I've ever heard in any Mazda I've owned (this is #3). I shrugged it off thinking one day I'ma get in there and tighten down whatever was loose.

Skip ahead 7 years. Since the installation of 2 new motor mounts, that small rattle was rattling my brain. So I said fuck it and looked up removing the panel. Turns out it's like 7 minutes. Of course. Well not sure if any of you have ever taken a door panel off but there's really nothing in there to rattle. It's all plastic and plugs.

So I'm nearly done removing the panel. The last bit is popping off the tabs that hold the actual panel to the door. I start at the bottom and pull. 2 tabs pop and I heard a 'ting ting' sound. WTF. I look down and see what I would eventually assume (after taking the panel all the way off) what was making that rattling sound for 7 fucking years.

Some asshole somewhere in the manufacturing process I assume dropped his fucking lunch money in my door panel. A dime (dated 2011...not sure that matters but makes sense) dropped out of the door panel. I was relieved and pissed all at once. Seems silly to be mad at something like that but reminds me of a story I heard of some Chevy tech who put a marble and note in a dash of a car that said something like "I wonder how long it took you to find this."

Anyways, rant over and whatever but damn...buncha silly shits. I thought these cars were built in Japan. WTF did that guy/gal have an American dime for? At least I got paid for my troubles.

LOL, that was a good story. I wonder how american coins did make it into your door panel. Did you buy your speed new? If not, maybe the guy who owned it before you had some work done and some mechanic somewhere in the US was the culprit.
My front bumper was scraped by some asshole a few years back and I had it replaced at the dealer. some 4 years later I took off my front bumper to change out my headlights and I found a rusted little ratchet with a 10mm socket in there. What's funny is that it never made a sound and it still worked fine, so I got a free ratchet at out of it.

Bought it new. Had like 6 miles on it when I drove it off the lot. Again I’m glad it was that and not something wrong with the car but then I kick myself for not taking 10 minutes anytime in the last 7 years to do so. Better late than never I guess!

So turns out, even though that dime was odd and probably not helping, there is still a metallic rattle in the door! Wtf? No idea what it could be now. Ugh. Guess the door panel comes off again. Maybe I’ll find a 20 in there or something.

Anyone ha e any ideas on other areas to check?
