Relentless Shop car build

Now that we are making some progress on our build, I figured its time to organize a thread for it.

2007 Mazdaspeed3 purchased from a fellow Nator member in North Carolina (Brandon)
Received the car on July 2, 2015
Already installed: BC Coilovers, Corksport Rear sway bar, Stainless Brake lines, BBS RK's
Car was in very good shape, inside and out. Bumper was replaced due to some cosmetic damages.


Once we received it we immediately took apart the block for inspection. We purchased the car knowing it had spun a bearing, it was perfect for us as we were planning on building right away.

Plan: We originally intended on building a track car. But considering how much time we spend at the shop working on customers engines/parts, we decided on a street car setup.

It wouldnt fit in my oven haha, but i have seen one done. For a full restoration job, why not. I believe it was a 240sx with a roll cage welded in

Honestly no reasoning behind the green other than we saw the color online and thought it would really stand out on a silver car, definitely turned out better than expected when we rolled the block out into the sun. The ceramic is a new silver from Cerakote that is really bright in sunlight. We are shooting for 600hp

 

You got me looking back into a top mount setup after seeing that manifold! Did you get a custom downpipe from 16W as well?

 

I did not, only because we arent local to him. If we were I would be deep into a rabbit hole of debt haha. Working on our in house welding so we can fab one up ourselves soon

 

I am going to talk to him about getting a setup going. Your build pretty much matches mine as I already have the built motor but want a 5858 turbo to go with it.

Is there any sort of cerakote or powdercoat that is a clear color so the color of the manifold stays the same(as in doesn't change color and keeps the color of the bare metal and welds)?

 

Cerakote offers a clear Ceramic paint, but i don't believe it will withstand the temperatures of exhaust components. Because its a top mount manifold, we chose to coat it over looks. Location of all the runners wont really show once its all intalled.

What are you guys doing for your turbo oil feed and return lines situation?

 

Feed like was purchased from summit, i believe its the same one that is linked in the how to section here. Drain im using 2 45 degree -10AN fittings with a return hose. The hose will be covered in a thermal protection sleeve. (still needs a few adjustments made, but more or less how it is on the picture)

 

Just out of curiosity: why no DI-style pistons, like those nice Mahles? That was a great upgrade when they redesigned the Genwon pistons for the Genpu, and supposedly really helps with atomization/combustion due to our DI spray pattern/angle.

Sweet! You guys are down in Houston, right? I'm up in DFW. Just out of curiosity, would there ever be any possibility that you could build a motor, me drive down there, and swap it out and keep my old longblock? I know I'd have to stay in town for a little while to do initial break-in before driving back up to DFW. I'm just curious if logistically you'd be able to handle such a thing. You guys have a great rep with our platform! Also, maybe we can exchange some emails/PMs regarding what cost I'd be looking at.
