Hi guys this is my first post,

I just bought a msp6 a few months ago and it had a stage 3 ACT clutch and flywheel on it along with a new motor with 88k miles and other mods such as upgraded CS4 turbo, V3 accessport CS injector seals, CS HPFP internals, Raceland coilovers, CS cams, intake manifold, exhaust, CS down pipe, boost controller, there may be more but that 's what i can think of.

Anyway, I was driving on the freeway and it suddenly wouldn't go into gear and felt like something was "loose" I was pretty sure it was the clutch and flywheel, but mechanic said it was the transmission and ordered one for $900. We wait a week for it to get here and he gets it up and finds out it's the clutch.

Having not driven a manual in awhile I wanted to go with a LUK clutch kit both to save money and in case I mess another one up it'll be a cheaper one. He insists on getting another stage 3 ACT and says now it will be more money because it is a 4x4 and he didnt know that. I call BS, I think he is trying to make up for lost time and maybe having to pay something for returning the transmission that wasn't needed.

Also, if I do go stage 3 again, any resources on how to get used to the stage 3 especially first gear?

Uh learn to drive it? Break it in properly. I have had the ACT kit and flywheel in my speed for over 20k miles now without issue.

As for the shop, they should have quoted the time properly to begin with. I'm a technician and if I misquoted a customer the time for a job, that's on me. If I misdiagnosed the issue and ordered a part that has a restocking fee, that's on me.

Tell your mechanic it's up to him to install the clutch and flywheel at the time he quoted you. I do recommend using a higher grade clutch if you're gonna be putting some power down or driving it hard.

If you aren't used to a car with a lightened flywheel try revving it up a little before you begin to let out on the clutch so it isn't as much of a shock as you let off. It also helps to make sure the Freeplay is set correctly which the mechanic should charge extra for with an aftermarket clutch being installed.

    Thanks for the reply,

I've been looking for other speed 3/6 owners in my area (South Texas) a technician maybe? o_O I thought about a Southbend stage 3 but I think the new one was already ordered.

Ill make sure to continue doing my research so as to not damage the new one. How long do they usually last? I've heard 50k miles but not sure how accurate that is. I'd rather change it out next time before it goes out on me.

I don't live anywhere near Texas. I don't know how long they usually last. I think that comes down to your power levels, the way you drive and use the clutch etc.

If @Raider says the LUK clutch will work for up to 500 I'm sure that is a lot easier to drive around on than something with a strong pressure plate like the ACT.
