Recently found out my shifter cables were busted to the point the plastic sleeve broke off & the there was not enough tension on the cable to get into 1, 3, 5 & reverse without massive fail. So fast forward I'm here doing the install & have the dash mostly taken apart just to get into the firewall area where the bolts are conveniently located. Anyone can point me in the direction of a how to or tips? Trying to get this done with minimal fuck ups in the process.

I think it would be pretty close. Are the shift cable part numbers the same between Gens?

Do you have a couple reference pics for us so maybe we can help guide you?

Let me snap some real quick & get back to you guys.

    Edit:

This is where I'm at currently, trying to get the cable through the hole but the other thing I'm concerned about is the new cable does not have the rubber grommet that attaches to the trans bracket. How would one even reuse that?

I got these cables from Edge Autosport & the part numbers on the packaging correspond to the correct part numbers for my vehicle so I'm not quite sure if they may have done a revisions on their shifter cable assemblies?

Hm. Well that's strange. What year is your speed? Mine is a 2010 with stock cables and I don't have that rubber grommet.

Are you sure there is no rubber grommet like that? Would you mind taking a picture of your design? I'm confused on mine actually because of that dinky grommet. Anyone else with a genpu can confirm as well with pictures of their cable orientation?

I'll take a picture when I get home. Does the grommet sit that close to the cable brackets? I just put a new trans mount on and don't recall seeing that at all.
[doublepost=1495477555][/doublepost]Is it possible to contact edge and ask them about it?

Thanks man I appreciate it. Not close but it a bit further behind the bracket. I attached a picture to what the grommet attaches to.[IMG]

Okay I definitely do have the grommet, my bad! Wasn't able to get a good picture without taking off my intake but I was able to feel it. Maybe contact edge and see what they have to say about it?

Well I contacted them & they said they're having Mazda send them another one to see if there are any differences between the 2.

It is lol, luckily I'm currently on disability so I don't really have much of the need for my car at the moment. Would be nice but I have to wait.

Update, so I spoke with JP at Edge Autosport today & well looks like its the wrong one & Mazda fucked up on this part. I have to overnight the part here which I had to pay extra for to get it here asap since my car needs to be running before the weekend since I'm going out of town. Its my luck lol.

There is one thing I'm having trouble with, there's a but conveniently located against the firewall that holds a bracket for the shifter cables. Its a real huge PITA.

So did Mazda fuck up or edge? I assume Mazda.

Mazda fucked up on Edge & then I got the part from Edge which was not the right one lol. So its all Mazda's fault.

My thought exactly, not sure how they would fuck up on sending a part that would technically fit but without a key component? Lol
