Has anyone snapped this driver shaft? My "mods" are ebay DP, HPFP internals and an COBB OTS map, so probably making just a bit over stock power. While semi lunching from a stop light (Was not paying attention and got a few horns blown behind me) The Axle snapped right before the inner CV, basically right at the differential. They are supposedly rated for 500hp. So I am trying to see, how the hell did this snap when I am most likely making less then 280hp. Am I on the wrong for expecting this not to snap, if they are rated much higher? P.S. I am also known as apena85 on that other website
Don't hard launch on street tires, especially in conditions where you will dead hook, and not without preloading the drivetrain. Also, why did you "upgrade" the axles in the first place? The stock ones are handling 10 second passes at well over 600 WHP on slicks (which helps with axle survive-ability quite a bit, mind you).
How long have you had them? There were some early ones that I remember breaking on 1 or 2 cars. Could just be a faulty axle. Could be axle angle, with either soft suspension or soft diff bushings. Softly sprung cars seem to wreak havoc on axles more than others.
Trying to find that out. Says limited warranty on the edge auto Web page. [doublepost=1456023437][/doublepost]Replaced because stock CV was in bad condition when I bought. Figure why not upgrade as they are cheaper the OEMs. [doublepost=1456023922][/doublepost] Ive only had them for appriximatly 6-8k miles, but keep in mind thats about 2.5 years as I only drive the car from the train station home. Less then 3 miles away. Stock suspension, but aftermarket diff mount. Can't remember the name, but it's the mount that has six mounting points. I replaced it all after buying the car and having the oem mount fail withing the first 6 months and having to replace the differential. [doublepost=1456024076][/doublepost]Here is a picture of it.
Hate to break this to you but "upgrade" and "cheaper" are rarely used in the same sentence, especially when talking about the same object.
I see what you are saying. But, when I called the dealer the stock rear driver side shaft was something like ~$500. So, I was recommended this which edge had for $399. Figure it was a no brainer, add that with 15% off.
Finally got a reply from DSS. They are replacing it, no question asked. Still curious to see where you guys are finding MS6 rear driver side for that cheap. I see the passenger side and the front going for much cheaper, but not the driver side.
They just send me the refurbished part. It seems that little sleeve on the spline was a separate piece. It is now is one solid piece with the CV joint housing.
