Just sharing the difference between the Stratified Stage2 93 Flash Tune versus the Stage2 E85 Flash Tune on my car. Not really sure about the power/torque numbers it is showing, but that extra power shown in the graphs is definitely noticeable. I would even argue that because of the knock limitations with regular pump gas, the best bang for the buck option with the K04 is to go from stock tune straight to an e85 tune.

Just was browsing the local and came across this. Usually with intake + testpipe + ethanol you can hit 300/350 @ the wheels on a healthy motor. It could just be your logging sport. Then again, since it's a flash tune instead of a full custom, that could be the difference too.

Do you have a nice, flat, straight logging spot? If not, you can always do several logs in each direction (starting and ending as close to the same spots as possible) and average the results for a more accurate measure.

What's your name again, bro? I think I know you from Jason's house (Redneck4Christ) but I'm not sure. You're pretty close to me, being in Grand Prairie and all. BTW, didn't you just pick-up a sweet BT setup?

Didn't have testpipe when I ran those datalogs. Both logs were done on smooth roads, though both were going slightly uphill. Not really worried about the power/torque numbers and am more concerned about how the car feels. That E85 tune feels great and it pulls really well.

My name is Dino. I haven't been to any of the DFW Mazda's meets, nor have I ever been to Jason's house, so I don't think we've met yet. I did not get a BT setup, don't have the funds for that yet haha.

Out of sheer coincidence I stumbled on this thread. Also a DFW`er (arlington). This time next week I`ll be on Stratified`s stage 3 flash with E85, a (hopefully) solid stopping point while I figure out the best path to my next goal (BT, but nothing radical).

I thought the Stage2 E85 flash tune was fast enough for me, the Stage3 map should be even more fun.

There's nothing like a full custom tune for E30 or so once you're fully bolted. You can expect 320-330/360-380 @ the wheels when you're done. Lex may want to stop at 360wtq, but Justin was fine putting me at 380. The K04 will support that level, and even more, if you're low enough in the powerband that its limited flow is a non-issue. But it's a catch-22: K04s can make a TON of wtq, but in a rev range that it's unwise to do so, becuz rods.

I`ll be on their stage 3 E85 tune end of this week. I`ll probably pay for one flash review/revision to hold me over and make sure everything is running properly. TBH I could probably take over and tune it myself from there but for the cost of the software/class/test I can have them do three revisions which is pretty close to what a custom tune would do, and I`m honestly not ready to experiment with my tune just to see what happens. I`ll be happy if I can give my buddy`s 400hp Benz a run for his money on the K04 (it`s a heavy pig, too).

You guys should all email Rob finkle (hypnotic) and see what he can do for you custom tune wise. The price was super reasonable and he is awesome to work with

Thing is, once you've done a flash tune, many tuners will let you apply the money you've already spent on the flash tune toward a full tune. So it's almost always the best deal to just stick with the guy you chose and go full tune.

I'm already FREEKTUNED by Justin, who has literally tuned over 1,000 Mazdaspeeds. Appreciate the heads-up, but I'm quite happy.
Don't get me wrong, Rob is awesome. When I self-tuned for years, he was one of the guys I learned a lot from, but I'm a loyal customer to Justin: www.freektune.com

There are others that are very skilled, like him. But in my humble opinion, there's nobody that surpasses him. He's also a Master Mazda Tech on top of everything else.

Besides, who wouldn't be satisfied with this on a BNR S3?

Check-up logs from yesterday. Only 24psi and 17.5 degrees up top (in other words, room to grow). But at my power level, going for more spikes the risk/reward ratio. I'm VERY happy where I'm at :D

I meant the guys running flash tunes that were looking to upgrade.

I was OTS tuned by Freek, and it was cheaper to be custom tuned by Rob than upgrade to a full custom tune from Freek. I'm not sure if Rob has flat rate pricing or how that works, but he was super reasonable.

Justin was super helpful and answered a million questions of mine. I have no doubt he knows what he is doing. But if guys are on a budget, hard to say no to a custom tune by a reputable tuner vs a flash.

I hear ya. Dizzy and Purple Drank are also reputable and very competitively priced. Back when I first was tuned by Justin, the prices were lower. But he's in such high-demand now, the prices have gone up. Regardless, any of these guys are worth every penny that they charge.
