I was checking this EM out on one of our vendor's pages (Virtue Motorsports) and I'm curious if anyone has ever tried one?

    http://virtuemotorsports.us/products/trem144

It's cast iron (i.e., durable), inexpensive, has a T3 flange (opens up a wide variety of turbos), a 38mm WG port, and probably sounds good, being UEL. I've read a lot about many tubular EMs for our platform, but I can't find much at all regarding people using this. Viable option? There were some conversations about this elsewhere, but they kind-of fizzled out. Seems like even though you may have to address location issues of lines, DP, etc, the inexpensive price and rugged construction may make it worth it. I wonder how it flows....

I remember seeing this before and there was issues with it. Fit or something. I wish I could remember at this point. But I would assume if it fits the 2.0 mazda 3 that its not going to work on the MZR.

Flange looks identical to me, even the portion that leads over to the EGR port, and Treadstone indicates it for the 2.3 MZR DISI Turbo... hopefully someone can speak to actually having tried it. There are a ton of T3 turbos out there, many very inexpensive. Only difference I can tell is some of the exhaust studs aren't needed, which is actually kind-of a benefit - easier install:

Indeed. But some of their products are known to be excellent, such as their cores that many of us run. I don't know - maybe I'm crazy - but a compact, cast EM like this shouldn't be nearly as hard to get good fitment as a whole FMIC system, right? Man, I wish someone had one of these handy and could do a test fit. An engine build would be perfect to test fitment; engine's already out and don't need to worry about lines, DP, and intake clearance. Should be much easier to fit between the firewall too, when installed on cars with engines already in.

I'm about to be running pretty much the same thing, just an eBay $95 one for a Focus and MZR 2.0. It has 7 bolts compared to 10 (or 12, can't remember) and one needs to be enlarged a little. Other than that, should be fine. @Fozzy is my advisor when it comes to the mani, as he was running it at one point. I'll be putting a 5858 on it in upcoming months, so I guess I'll be the test dummy.

Edit: IIRC, treadstone mani didn't work because the flange was angled weird. The eBay one is straight up and down and doesn't mess with the firewall.

Double edit because I can't get my shit straight: Look at this on eBay http://www.ebay.com/itm/111947920836

What a deal! You can get some high performance thermal coating too and still come in really cheap. The real question is, how will it flow? Curious to see your results.

That's the plan! I can't remember from the old, old thread I was stalking, but I know the runners on the mani either are port matched or close to gasket matched. We shall see! The one I got to mess around with seemed like a solid piece. Maybe a 44mm WG as compared to a 38mm would be nice, but for $99, I couldn't care less.

Shameless self-promotion; I have a thread on MS6 build diaries as well for an easier way to keep up with it, I'm maybe 3 parts and fab work away from installing it, working with that college kid budget.

Only a fmic away from the mani and turbo being put on. In due time!

I'd take the chance with it but unfortunately the BNR s4 is not a t3 flange.

Ask Bryan to make you one. Simple chop/re-weld job, I'd imagine.

Just making sure, I personally wouldn't use the treadstone mani. The flange is angled awkwardly in my opinion. The eBay one is essentially the same thing with the flange parallel to the valve cover, not at a 30 or so degree angle towards the firewall. And I'm sure you can get a t3 flange made for it, I don't see why not.

I'm curious to see how the eBay one works out. My desire to open up my pool of turbos options without spending $1000 on another manifold is high.

Soooo many options open up with this flange. A ton of money can be saved with those options. And if this EM doesn't flow so well, it's perfect to be extrude-honed. Also, being UEL, it'll likely retain a really nice exhaust note. I LOVE how our Speeds sound so much more than our FoST cousins. It's night/day.

And regarding the Treadstone piece, it could always be sent to a machinist to fix the angling issue and make the necessary changes to the mounting holes/threads.

Agreed. With a cheap T3 option you could get a BW Airwerks turbo, a V Band downpipe and the manifold for less than a lot of people (including me) paid for just their turbo.

I'd love this option for my future plans of going EFR7163. Even going without the bells/whistles route that EFR offers (including intake, intercooler, etc.), it's still a very expensive kit. Using a 7163 with a hotside that'd fit this would cost soooo much less. Then, I'd only have to worry about custom DP fabrication, which is still going to be MUCH less total cost than going with that EFR kit (the barebones one). EFR's IWG are so awesome that I don't even have to worry about EWG cost, dump routing/recirculating (I don't like EWG dump sound, personally). It'd be a much simpler, more elegant, far less pricey way to go. All you'd need is a simple block-off plate for the top of this, or even something welded on to have zero chance of leaks/etc.

With all the bells and whistles, I'm only.out about $1500 for a mani, pte 5858, bov, fmic, ewg, lines, and dp. It's great.

    I was contemplating a 7163, but unfortunately I can't find anything except t25, t4 and v-band flange options.
