I have searched on the mazdaspeed forums, and found that the vvt chain should be tight when the engine is warm. what about when the engine is cold?
All depends on how the engine falls. Even when its warm. Are you looking at a motor that is out of a vehicle?
It is also important to know if the engine is at TDC. It needs to be in order to really know. Generally, if you can see speed grooves on the valve cover, that is bad.
its in my ms6 still, and I checked it when I changed my oil and it was loose (cold). but after it got to operating temp there wasnt much play [doublepost=1460745914][/doublepost]no grooves or anything on the valve cover. I felt along with my finger as well and didnt feel anything.
