Figured it would be cool to have a list of real world experience in using x turbo vs. y turbo. Pretty much, what turbo you run, and why! Feel free to throw in future plans or questions about turbos nobody has really ran.

For myself: currently on a k04, being swapped out in a month for a Precision 5858, T3 .82 A/R. Picked it because once I'm built it can make a good chunk of power, and it moves the torque up in the powwer band. Oh, and my K04 is smoking.

Have a BNRs3. Has the potential to max out the stock block for a well priced turbo and spools very quick.

PTE 5858....basically only wanted to buy a turbo/mani/dp once. Like you said, shifts tq up in the powerband to hopefully preserve my block until i build, but plenty of potential when i finally do.
Screamer sounds amazing, pulls hard to redline and i daily drive it so im not always getting k04 instaboost

BNR S3 v1. Not the biggest, nor the baddest, nor the highest-tech, but an amazing turbo for the price and performance. Definitely gets my vote for an ideal turbo to come with the Speed 3 from the factory. 24.5psi, 17 degrees timing, and it rips, pulling many a fast car that it's "not supposed to be able to," LOL:

GT3582R .82ar T3 in, vband out. Bought it because a local was selling it on the cheap. It spools real fast for what it is but I'd like to get a Borg S362-SXE as I've heard very good things lately about the SXE line.

Edit: Dyno sheet obviously is useful in this situation. Motor has a lot of room left to go but for a 35r at 34psi I'm pretty happy

I have been very interested in the S300sxe line as well. Very intrigued and wanting to try the T4 divided 1.00 A/R S366sxe, however the thing is massive and I don't know about clearance issues, topmount or not. Plus I decided the car is going to go stupid fast later in it's life, so 90lbs/min seems fun

That's a nice power curve right there!

Ghetto rigged "HTA" 3076 because I blew up my GT3071 with a paper towel and for $350 it was worth to test the rebuild.
This is on just 93, need more fuel before I can push it any further.

I still think you got a steal. So long as this thing has a great service life, you have both amazing spool and flow for a low rebuild price. Wins all the way around.

Yeah, it really has been an amazing turbo for so cheap. I really want to get things going to I can see what the upper limit of it is.

And yeah, I was stupid and cleaning some blow by oil out of my intake and lost 1/2 a paper towel in there and didnt notice. Put it all back together and the rest is history.

Ineed. And the fact that those results are on 93 is all the more amazing. I'm hoping for a similar curve on an EFR7163, but I'll be using a lot of alky (E25 in-tank and ~20GPH of 100% methanol).

Yep. Perhaps your WGA is different than mine. Justin neutered it, too. It could be faster. Also, I only went WOT at 3k, so there's that - it'd likely hit 20psi sooner if I WOT'd sooner, but I don't feel like that's a good idea, LOL.

I stopped at a conservative 325/345 on 93 (and our Texas 93 is known to be crappy - not as bad as Cali's, but I digress). Is your mod list comparable to mine? Those numbers were made pre-methanol, too. I now spray a CM10 (12.8GPH) of 100% methanol for cooling, valve cleaning, an extra safety barrier, and more consistent year-round performance.

Im about to put a 3.5 inch, but power mod wise we are very comparable.
    current 3" turbo back, 3" intake, tr8 w cx piping, 3bar, and 3 port.
That will be a blast if we let it go to that level on e85.

I really want to know if there's any real competition to the 6466 at the moment. I know some 67mm will make slightly better top end and the expense for spool, but it seems like if you want anywhere from 400 to 1000 you can just slap a 6466 on and call it quits. Any opinions on this?

Edit; maybe not 400 to 100, but 600 and up. And going for massive, use able power. I know for 500 or so the 7163 would kick ass because of spool, etc.

Indeed. I'm gonna go EFR7163 eventually. Get up to 380wtq ASAP, and stay there all the way to 7k, which will be ~510whp.

I just need to find a spare $8k or so to build and do everything first, LOL.

Garrett did just come out with Gen2 versions of their GTX line and the GTX3582R is rated for 850. I haven't seen any speeds running it yet but if it spools like the old gtx and has that kind of top end I'd say it should be a good competitor. I also appreciate having a water cooled CHRA. Then there's always the Borg S366SX-E which I've heard very good things about, but unfortunately we are in a platform where people just go PTE and really don't experiment with other turbos too much.
