Yikes, guys. Time to give it a rest..... The Internet forum is a great thing but there is a time to walk away before the temper flares against someone who is far away and may be having a bad day. God bless all y’all!

Holy shit. I take a couple of months off and an entire thread blows up with my name in it.

Rob, (1) I did thank you several times for the first work you did on my tune, and publicly proclaimed such. I was very much looking forward to getting the new engine tuned, and if you recall what I actually asked you for was help along the way so I could learn the platform. I was perfectly willing and prepared to pay you for that. (2) never a negative word, public or private, about you or your abilities or knowledge. I simply said "yep, was gonna work on the new motor`s tune with him and then all of a sudden never heard from him again". I`m not alone in that, but I digress. (3) The tune for the new motor started absolutely from scratch when I didn`t hear from you. I wanted to know exactly where it started so I figured it best to start over. It`s still running very, very well. I`ve put nearly 40K miles on it in a year and it`s making more power than most expected it would.

On to the "negative" experiences. Well, one of those was actually worth mentioning. I dropped a perfectly rebuildable engine off at a shop with the intent to have it built to performance standards. Zero parts and zero labor involved. In fact, the shop asked me to drop it off. That motor was used to save the shop`s ass when it was rebuilt and put in someone else`s vehicle. I was never asked nor directly informed. I had to infer it (correctly, mind you). I was left with no engine, and was never compensated in any way for it. At all. No offer was made. I was fucked, and no matter the font used it still spells out the same. I have washed my hands of that situation and cut my losses.

As for the only other time on here I have gotten off the leash...well, I`ll own that one. I lost my shit on a slapdick little shit and I meant every word of it.

There`s no "but", no "however", no passive aggressive shade to throw at Rob. It was sort of awkward to have no idea what happened, but as a result I learned a lot about the platform, and about my car specifically. I was never mad at Rob. If anything I was little more than apathetic about the situation. That`s it. That`s my response in its entirety.

oh yeah, another memory of the earliest conversation about the new engine`s tune. At very first contact I asked nothing more than if everything about the hardware stayed the same, only change being the rods and pistons, would the tune from the previous engine be usable. I then asked (upon confirmation of such) if you`d be willing to copy the map over to Versatune as I was going that route with the new engine. I did offer to pay you for that more than once, you humbly declined each time. A solid month and a half went by and what I got was a base map, not the tune map I actually asked for. Again I wasn`t mad, trusting your experience over even the engine builder who told me specifically that the engine would be broken in and ready for a far more aggressive tune and that the previous map would make a nice starting point to work from.

Ultimately I am glad I tuned my own car. I learned a lot about the platform and grew to understand the depth and care that goes into developing a tune on a fairly complicated ECU.

And at the end of the day ALL I said was "Nope, haven`t heard from Rob since we first agreed to tune the new engine. I also wonder what happened". If that is in some way a bash, smear, or otherwise negative then I really need to revisit everything I have ever learned about right and wrong.

And for those who have read this far and might be on the fence still about having Rob tune your vehicle: there might be tuners who are higher profile, or who have a bigger reputation, but you`d be hard pressed to find someone who pays more attention to detail. Rob did a great job coming in to clean up another tuner`s map, which is something not a lot of tuners will even do.

Thank you for explaining your side of everything. This thread got cluttered very fast with shit. I think Rob would appreciate you explaining everything, but I doubt he will be back on the forums for a long while. Glad to hear the car is running well and it's awesome to see you still recommend Rob even after the interesting experience you have had with him. I tell people all the time that Rob is very very different in the way he tunes, but in the end it will be 100% worth it if you stay invested in the process.

I really wanted Rob to tune me based off the experiences of other people around me. LynzeC swore by hypnotic. I tried to reach out on several occasions but was unsuccessful. I even won a set of tunes at enm in the raffle and I didn’t get them either. I don’t even care about that because the proceeds were for a good cause. I was more or less worried about Rob’s well being after so many failed attempts. Life happens. I’m glad to know he still out there tho. There is still lots of love for him here in the murder mitten.

I mean, shit, I swear by Hypnotic. Rob is the nicest, most sincere guy I have met in this community. He is tricky to get ahold of, but email has been the best form of communication and the one he prefers. A lot of people try to reach him through FB, but that is not the way to go about it. I hope one day you can give Rob a shot if he is still tuning. I guarantee you will not regret it.

    (thank god for another Michigander)

I would absolutely tune with Rob if he’d have me. That’s exactly what I’ve heard from a lot of people, that Rob is a generous and all around great dude. I’ve honestly only heard good things (except he’s hard to reach) until I stubbled in here. If he does come around I would like the chance but if not I will have to go elsewhere.

Shoot him an email. Wouldn't hurt.

    hypnotictuning@outlook.com

let him know what you got and what you need. If he doesnt get back with you in a day or 2, shoot him another email and bug him. He is very busy and reminders are welcomed. I am not sure if he is taking new customers yet tho.
