@Turbo_Steve had some good ideas for sexy manifold construction if I remember correctly.

@AYOUSTIN as for the effects of turbulent flow... Depending on what sponsorships your school has, you may have access to the student version of COMSOL. If so, that is a very powerful tool for flow simulation.

The air flow will be fully developed turbulent flow. The design with the largest diameter to cross sectional area will flow at a greater rate. So it should make sense that the open runner would have a higher flow rate than the split. The runner is nowhere near thin enough compared to air molecule size to not have an effect on flow.

I love seeing tests like this carried out. Always important to have empirical data to support claims. Great work!!

Hmmm, I'll look into it. I've not heard any mention about any CFD programs that we have access to. I'd love to be able to get my hands on some though, it would definitely make my term project a hell of a lot easier.

I agree that the open runner should flow more but 20% seems a bit drastic for such a small change. I expect that number to drop after the manis are connected to heads. By how much is what I'm wondering though. Unfortunately this week is a short one for me, fucking Easter. Might try to sneak into school to get some more test time in.

Hope CO is treating you well broham!

That's exactly what I was wondering when I looked at the numbers yesterday - at what point does the improvement in manifold flow alone become moot? Because at some point the head is going to choke the flow. And then the next question is, at given pwar level how much will the engine take? Since the flow is being interrupted all the time that has to ultimately be the pacing factor and I imagine that improving flow capability of the earlier components by more than 20% above that doesn't yield much.

Typical spring day... haha CO has been great so far!! Can't wait to see the results with the heads connected.

I feel as the balance is probably the main reason for a intake swap for the masses. Only a small percentage can use the larger gains.

This is a big reason I went JMF. To help with meth distribution.

I foresee some better intake manifold options this year. Some that flow VERY evenly. Glad to see we're finally getting somewhere on this front.

@AYOUSTIN Have you been able to find out if you can get your hands on a Cp-E mani for some testing? I am very curious to see how it does against the JMF and how much better if at all the flow is between runners. Then with great hopes Corksport will eventually release there mani for testing also. I would love to see you get your hands on both of those manifolds so testing can be done on the same flow bench so there is no question on flow numbers. Thanks for all your work so far. I was going to go with PNP mani but now I might just pony up and go with one of the aftermarket big boys depending how the rest of the test results go.

I would love to get my hands on those manifolds for testing as well but neither of those companies have any interest in such a test. Fear not though, there is another manifold option that will be coming out. I can't say much about it but I was VERY pleased with the results and I think it's going to be a great option for many people.

Are you possibly talking about the manifold that Steve was working on because that would be awesome! Right now my current goals are to go with a S4 and stay stock block so I just want to get everything I can from the motor. Flow balance would probably be my highest concern so that way every cylinder is getting fed a nice even amount of fuel and air across the board.

The only thing I can say about it is no, it is not Steve's manifold. We have not been in contact at all.

Flow balance should be a high priority for everyone no matter what. An engine can only make as much power as it's weakest cylinder so feeding more air to the rest is moot. The only way around it is to have 1 of each sensor for each cylinder but that isn't feasibl.

How long until you can speak of said manifold? 2 weeks??

Exactly, We here this far to often in this community. Hell, were still waiting on @CorkSport to release said info in April ( four days left Man ) On their Manifold.

@AYOUSTIN That's good to know I did just see that you are currently a student learning about flow currently so the probability that you have a hand in designing this said manifold that we shall be very happy with is a good possibility I would think! In for more info and a rough timeline so I have a date for info to look forward too

Unfortunately not. I've supplied them with flow data but they had their ducks in a line when they contacted me. I have been discussing making my own mani with a member here but that's at least a year out and honestly I'm not sure I'd be able to do better than this other mani.

Not for me to say unfortunately. I was under the impression that it's towards the end of its field testing but don't take what I say for shit.

Bump to get some FOST data in here (naked mani, no head as that's already been covered).

FoST results added to OP. I never put my head analysis on this forum because I was not allowed enough attachments for all of the photos.

Those results are naked with no head attached right?

Correct. Mani and adapter connected to the bench.
