What did you do to your ride today

Last night, I filled-up with full 93 gas and went back to stock tune (uninstalled Accessport). I did this out of curiosity because I wanted to compare the stock tune to the E85 tune. I also wanted to compare the throttle sensitivity between the two tunes as I think the Stage3 Stratified E85 tune is overly sensitive to throttle inputs. So far in my morning commute today, for city driving the stock tune is a lot better. However it almost feels flat on an on-ramp compared to the E85 tune (which is not really surprising).

 

Nice! I want to do this too. So you did floor and door panels? Trunk? Also how has it cut down on drone inside the car and road noise.

 

found my corksport seals all leaking after a recent install. Corksport tq spec was 17-18 ft lbs. they are now at like 40 ft lbs. i only went for one drive but it was dry when i got back.

Has anyone have seen or had this issue?

 

I did front doors really well, floor pretty good, trunk area and rear wheel wells double layered before running out of material. Should have 36 more square feet coming to finish up the 5th door, back doors, increase the floors and maybe do some of the dash as well. It helped a lot. The car is somewhat comfortable to ride in and I'm less self conscious about driving family in my car. I can finally have a conversation without yelling or listen to a podcast with the volume blasted. It's a bitch to accomplish, I probably put 16 hours into it but it was my first time doing interior work, but now I feel it was well worth it. If you ever get a subwoofer or bigger midbasses in the doors, it's a must.

How much did u order and what thickness?

 

36 sq ft, 80 mil, noico. Search amazon, less than 70 dollars

Just to be clear. 36 sq ft did ur front and back doors and floor? But you need more for trunk and 5th door? So maybe order around 70sq ft or w.e the next size up?

front doors heavily
floor medium
trunk area heavily
rear wheel wells heavily
did not do rears doors or 5th door so yes get the next size up or 2x 36 as I don't see any bigger sizes in the 80 mil configuration.

 

how much weight do you think you added @brainbot1; or how much did the material weigh?

 

I was thinking of doing this to make the car a nicer ride over all. thanks for the info. I know people are all like , race car save weight but I would this is my DD.

I adjusted my throttle maps in versatune as I did not like the randomness of the stock maps. I did a 1:1 at first but the pedal was too on off for daily driving so I adjusted 2 3 4 5 and 6 to be more gradual to 10% throttle then go back to 1:1 and this is waaaay better. I left first gear as 1:1 since I rarely ever hanging out in first. This makes the car feel so much more responsive and predictable.

If you want to see one of the maps let me know I can upload it to a spreadsheet or something. it was pretty simple.

 

Ya it's a front wheel drive car so it can only be so much racecar. I'm a canyons/backcountry roads kinda guy so I have my fun daily ms3 but I'm saving to hopefully do an old miata or sti build for the real racecar feels

First time I've ever heard of CS seals leaking. Was the head thoroughly cleaned before install? Did you follow the instructions about pressing the seal down flush by applying pressure nearest to the center hole, and not on the edges?

 

Swapped out the worn track pads with NASCARs finest Duralast ceramics.

I've found that the stock tune throttle felt more responsive after going to Cobb OTS. I tried a throttle table update from MSF, which helped some but didn't fully feel "stock".

So I agree, the stock tune throttle feels good compared to what I've felt on OTS tune. (granted it is an OTS tune)

 

Yeah i followed everything from c.s. Cleaned the head with some meth and pressed the seals down. Now that i tq them down more i have not see any leak but its only been a few drives siince but seems to be a good sign. I has the mani off in 15 min. So tbh i wasnt even mad lol. Had it all back together within a hour or so.

 

Good info, thanks for sharing. Unfortunately, I'm still with the Cobb AP and I don't have ATR and the stratified flash tune map is locked, so I don't think I'll be able to mess with those anytime soon. I'm currently observing the differences between the stock tune and flash tune, so when I go custom tune, I can tell the tuner what I want.

My issue with the Stratified Flash Tune is that the throttle is overly sensitive. It is like "go time" all the time. There is an urgency to the car when you drive it, it's like it's telling you to go faster go faster. When I'm actually in a hurry this is great, but when I'm just commuting in the city, it is a little too eager. Also I would like a more linear feel to the throttle. I want to be at WOT when I get the most power. As it is right now, it seems like even at half throttle, I'm getting more power than I really want to. Ironically for me, it is less fun when I can't go WOT because I'm getting too much power early on. Again these are all just observations that I'm noting, so that I can tell my tuner what I want when I go full custom tune.

The interesting thing is that 2nd gear seems more "torquey" and is much more fun with the stock tune than with the Stratified E85 Flash Tune. My guess is that Stratified is delaying spool or boost in 2nd gear, because otherwise it will generate too much torque. With the stock tune, the torque restriction allows me to go almost WOT and not have wheelspin, which seems more fun to me.

 

I don't understand you OTS/Flash Tune guys. I couldn't imagine not being full custom tuned

 

HMMMMM , time go versatune I am using their base OTS map and then I modified it to my liking. Works awesome. With 1:1 mapping you do get way more throttle early on. The stock tune in 2nd is at like 40% throttle up to 80% foot pedal, it's crazy and made the less linear feeling. Now in 1st gear I just give it a little and it goes. Reminds me of my dsm with actual cable throttle which I liked. I do need to be lighter on the pedal for sure but I like it. Before it was like I had the pedal almost wot before the car felt good and at stop lights I would just be crawling forward or going balls out lol now I have a nice middle ground pull. I don't have my tables right now but I can show you what they look like and how mine are set. It took me about 5 minutes to change them. Does the AP not let you modify an OTS map?
