Hi all. I'm not "new" to the Mazda or Speed game. Just been out of the loop for a while. I'm the original owner of an '09 CWP MS3, and had an '05 MZ3 sedan before that. Never had much done to the MS3 in the past other than intake, cat-back, rims etc.

In August of 2015, with around 86,000 miles, the turbo started smoking and got considerably worse to the point where it was an embarrassment to drive the car. I tried the tricks such as the restrictor bolt, thicker oil, etc, but nothing helped. Eventually it was easier for me to get a new daily driver (2015 Focus with the 1.0L 3-banger Ecoboost with 6-speed, yes it's slow as hell, but gets decent mileage and no premium needed) than to deal with a turbo swap.

Three years later, I'm finally accumulating the parts for the Corksport Turbo upgrade. I'm aiming for a safe/reliable tune, maybe around 320ish whp.

I also will be upgrading to C/S fuel pump internals, 3.5" C/S intake (i know it's prob over-sized for the C/S turbo, oh well), C/S TMIC (I know FMIC is better but I don't feel like dealing with piping). I already have the CNT cat-back, a test pipe, but I'm torn on which downpipe to go with. Really wanting a catted DP, but of course the most affordable CNT dp is backordered with no eta in sight. The C/S catted dp is a beautiful piece, and the divorced wg path doesn't concern me because I never plan on going larger after the C/S turbo, but $580 is a tough pill to swallow for a pipe.

I'm hoping within the next month to have the install done, in time to get the Mazz out for a few months of enjoyment before winter strikes again.

    Sorry for the rambling haha.

    Welcome.

I mean, I have a 4" intake on my S4 and I consider that oversized. Like Sho said, look at the ATP downpipe, they are quite affordable and the quality is great for the price. I use the long catless on my car currently.

Thanks for the suggestions Sho and _Mazdarati. I was looking at the ATPs and while they're still not as cheap as the catted version from CNT ($400 vs $489) I may just have to go that route.

@_Mazdarati, how bad is it being catless, as far as fumes and sitting in traffic goes? I'm not worried about emissions. In PA, if the car is driven less than 5,000 miles a year (which mine definitely is driven less than that), it's exempt.

I don't smell a thing honestly. Just might be a bit loud but it's expected. I've never really smelled anything personally.

Thank you sir. I've never had a catless car before, so i wasn't sure what to expect.

I know some people complain about a slight smell but I've never experienced it. Could be different for you and with different exhausts, I am not 100% sure.

    My mods are
    3" intake
    ETS TMIC
    3" cat back
    3" 2nd cat delete
    HPFP
    CS turbo V1

Stock down pipe/1st cat. I had a catless dp, but the V1 housing creeped so bad I had to put the stock dp back in it. and now I'm too busy/lazy to pull the turbo to swap hot sides so I can go catless again. And the CNT also hasn't been available for me. I'm also not convinced it isn't going to creep in the winter even on the stock dp. My tuner said I might gain 15-20 whp going catless. So ricer math says an aftermarket catted dp is going to make less than that. So paying $

If you have a V1 hot side, I would just run the stock dp. I don't think an aftermarket catted is going to make a whole lot more power and it might creep uncomfortably. If you have a V2, you should be able to go catless, and I would if that's an option. You only smell it when you're sitting with the windows down

We've had some debate recently about whether cf 1.01 or 1.09 is accurate in v dyno. CF 1.01 reads a bit lower, so I'll go with that. These were 80* days, so I feel it's a good representation of what power the car will always be capable of, and what you should expect worst case.

Here is what I made on 93 and on e30 (1 gal e85 : 3 gal 93). I wasn't out of fuel on 93. Idc were in the 80's. it might be able to make a few more hp with decent gas, but I'd rather shoot for power on an ethanol mix.
