Ok first of all I apologize if this has been answered somewhere and my search skills suck. I feel like this topic has been beat to death in a way but I have not found a good answer. I have a 13 Speed3 that is in need of a turbo, still on the stock K04 @139,000 Miles! Car is using oil and plugs show no signs of oil fouling. Compression is 185-190 across all cylinders, PCV valve is a year old and was done when I did my valve clean. I initially was going to just do a BNR S1 as I am not tuned and don't plan to until next spring. I am still on the stock HPFP and will do Corksport internals and the rebuild kit when I install the new turbo. I bought the car used in 14 with 13,000 miles and the original owner had installed a Corksport intake. I have never had an problems with the car and it runs great other than oil use as of late. The only other mod is a cat back but I am still on the stock DP and midpipe. My question for everyone is can I safely run the S2 on the stock tune with a HPFP upgrade? My goals for a tune would just be to optimize everything and stay conservative and hopefully pick up some safe HP. This car is my DD and I want to keep it around for quite some time as I am very happy with the car and honestly enjoy taking care of it and replacing parts as needed.
No At a minimum you need a hpfp and tuning solution to install that turbo. I would suggest just putting oil into it until you are ready to do as above and then once you are buying those parts I would go all the way to the bnr s3.
I agree with EB. An S3, HPFP and tune will definitely wake the car up. The S1 is fine as a basic upgrade but I still felt it lacked the top end power. I noticed a massive difference going to a larger turbo. It depends on your goal for the time being. If you want to keep the car on the road and not kill your wallet this turbo is available.
L337, again I appreciate the offer but I think I'm going to go with a new S2 and a tune I'm not really looking to make a lot of power but if I can pick up another 30-50 on a safe conservative tune I'd be fine with that. I can't really think of any down side to running a safe tune and a more efficient turbo.
I enjoyed my s2 for the couple months I was running it. It was nice not needing more mods like bigger intake and other things. First mods to my ms6 were bnrs2, hpfp internals, 3" downpipe, access port, freektuned. It really did wake the car up.
Well I got the S2 in last weekend! I am currently on my base map and just sent in my first set of logs. The amount of work I've done over these past few weekends has been really rewarding. The K04 made it 140k there was a noticeable difference in shaft play and the smoke show getting on the highway is gone. My next upgrade will be a better top mount to keep BATs under control. I also want to say thanks to everyone on this forum for keeping the knowledge about this platform alive.
Well the S2 requires a tune and with that you will want a 3 port. I suppose you could use the stock one if you really wanted to, someone correct me if I'm wrong.... Also the stock one likes to break as they are plastic and a 3 port is only like $125 so you might as well just go ahead and do it.
You can use the stock but they are easily broken and changing to a three port requires a retune so just swap it
would anyone be able to link me to a bnr s2 3 port guide? i’m having trouble figuring out where to route the hoses to. plan on running all 3 ports to the s2, corksport intake, and a gfb bpv but can’t figure out where the hose on the 3 port connects to on the actual turbo. i know i might possibly sound like a huge idiot but it’s my first time working on any type of engine since my speed threw a rod so the speed forums help me tremendously.
same setup as the S3... see this thread, specially the post from Sho on how to hookup the 3port https://mazdaspeeds.org/index.php?threads/what-happens-if-i-hooked-this-up-wrong.10338/
This was on a Corksport Stage II intake which is stock sized and a stock DP with a UR resonated mid pipe running 93 octane. Obviously some restrictions in the setup and I was planning to retune on a 3.5 intake and a Cobb DP. I would imagine 310-320 WHP on 93 shouldn't be a problem.
