are you sure it's not the oil cooler gasket on top of the oil filter housing? Mine was leaking and creating a similar area.
on my car i have just under 40mm between the bottom of the intercooler and the valve cover. CPE Gen2 TMIC with MS6 elbow if that makes a difference.
