Anyone tried OBDLink MX+ or the like?

Sorta stumbled onto this when I was watching a short vid about SWAS. See here.

Looks cool and is $75. Need your own tablet/phone and honestly not sure if it will display all the same types of thing an AP would. per their site, it can:

• Display, graph, and log 90+ real-time parameters

whatever the hell those are. i spent 20 minutes looking and could not find an extensive list. i did read that it's now similar to BlueDriver ($99) which i provide the list below.

i have a v2 and was thinking of popping on a v3. but if i can flash and log with my v2, could i just rock this for my monitoring? all this ebay component thread reading has me thinking cheaper.

Never heard of it. Don't see vacuum either which may have been the boost monitoring. Without that, should be a no go.

 

Intake manifold absolute pressure would be boost. Map sensor readings

 

theres old thread in the other forum bout this, this same brand is also getting recommended by versa
needed the torque app+mazdaspeed plug in to get some of the mazdaspeed parameters to work.
please let us know the speed, the old forum was saying it claims 100 real time parameter but then when tested on speeds its 25-26

 

I wasn't impressed by the data rate for displaying parameters with the ODBLink + Torque. It does it's job, but it's no where near as fast as an AP.

Also a more important note, the 5 second button hold for SWAS only works on the 2013s.

 

Per Nishan, that doesn’t really work either. The light staying on doesn’t actually do anything but stay on. The one true way to disable SWAS is to unplug the connector under the steering wheel. Again, per Nishan.

is it really that slow? back in the old forums when this was the topic they said its decent but everyone have their own opinion on whats fast or slow,

 

Depends on how many things you want to display.

 

i own the green model, don't remember if it is a LX or MX but the cheaper one that just read engine ecu. It work a lot better than a chineese elm327 and it is just a tiny bit faster than the chineese. But it always connect at first try and just that worth the price paid. I just use it to read/clear obd codes for family and friends cars. I used it for data display of my speed when i just had a V2 but now i preffer looking at knock with the V3, it feel more accurate for gen1 speeds

I've been using one with Torque Pro for a while now. If you don't have an AP it's perfect. It might be SLIGHTLY slower than the AP, but for basic monitoring I think it's perfectly fine. It's been absolutely crucial to me sorting various issues with my car. The torque app has a ton of options and can monitor just about all the important stuff (that I can think of at least) and includes live graphs and logging. Again, for just a casual monitoring solution if you don't have an AP, or want to tune via VT, I really think it's great option.

 

Torque has a speed test function and I wanna say best I've seen with OBDLink MX is around 30 PID/s... ie, 3 params at 10hz, 6 at 5 hz....more or less. Way slower than AP etc., so it's not an ideal datalogger, but if you want to view 5 gauges while driving it works very well.

 

I actually found my old ODBLink MX+ unit. If anyone wants to try it out before you pull the trigger on one, I'll toss it in the mail if you cover a flat rate box.

 

I have OBDLink MX and an MX+. Works great with Torque and the plugin for regular monitoring. It doesn't give as many PID/s as the AP does (or, I imagine, Versatuner and their wired interface), but it's way faster than a cheap eBay ELM adapter. Pretty sure I get way more than 30 PID/s. The only thing I think Torque Pro + Plugin doesn't read is injector duty cycle, and it's not like I need that on a daily basis. Torque only monitors what is on the screen at a given time, so just limit what's on any given screen, but have other screens to swipe over to if you want to be able to see something else. For example I don't keep STFT/LTFT on the main screen but it's on the next screen if I want to check it.

I still hook up the AP to make logs for the tuna.
