Hey if anyone has their car up off the ground can you look at your passenger side CV joint where it enters the intermediate shaft and tell me if you're able to jiggle it like this?

I just changed the intermediate shaft bearing and we checking for oil leaks and noticed i was able to jiggle it. I'm quite sure i got it past the c-clip. With the wheels on the ground the entire unit will push inwards but I'm not sure if this is normal

Im not seeing much movement. If you arent having any vibrations I wouldnt worry about it.
I have some movement on my MS6 but dont have any issues with my front shafts...<Here>

    Thanks for checking.

I drove 100 miles with no issues. The C-clip is so close to the end of the intermediate joint there is no way I could have gotten the CV joint on that far without it engaging past the c-clip.

Actually nice not to hear the intermediate shaft bearing vibrating/oscillating at highway speed. Should have done that job years ago! Shame on me.

The crap Chinese CV boot clamp is leaking a little. Where the hell do you buy decent quality boot clamps? The ones I get are (either style) from Amazon are so bad.

Get yourself a proper boot clamp tool if you dont have one, and go to a reputable auto parts store. Ive used these and never had a leaky boot...Lyle CV boot clamp tool...

I buy them at my local NAPA, they also come in the boot kits I buy. They are called ear clamp style or "Oetiker style"...I was today days old when I googled it, lol.

Here is a better video of the movement of the CV joint at the intermediate shaft but this time with the suspension compressed to push the joint into the intermediate shaft.

I never noticed this before....how can this be normal? Its the OEM unit. Why would it have so much lateral play while on the shaft?

I still think I have more movement on my MS6 than you do, with out issue. Im at almost 100ooomi. When the joint is spinning, if it were to become askew the problem would originate from the components inside the tulip/cup and not the splined shaft. There might be some measure of wear from time, but it would be minimal as the splined shaft dosent slide or wear from movement.

Hey I'm not saying its broken, I'm just saying the design is beyond my understanding. The other end of the CV joint where it enters the hub or where the intermediate shaft enters the differential is a perfect fit.

Then this side of the CV with the female end is jiggling on the intermediate shaft even when pushes all the way in...

There are 2 different designs at each end. The one at the outer end is a Rzeppa style but is tasked with articulating as the wheels turn.
The inner joint is also Rzeppa design, but it is a hybrid between Rzeppa and a tripod style and is tasked with taking up the changes in length of the shaft as the suspension moves up and down. There will always be a little play on the inner joint because it isnt torqued down tight like the outer joint inside the hub once you install the axle nut.

I understand the 2 designs and have repacked both inner and outer joints on various occasions on various cars.

I assumed it was slip fit onto the intermediate shaft....I guess its not...why there needs to be any play there makes no sense to me.
