Everyone parted out because they all put them on a speed6 and everyone knows how 99% of speed6 stories end.

Yowwww, mind telling me some summazire stories about that. Reason why I just picked up one non running sp6 (vvt gear pin failed) but I have my other parts from my genpu going to the 6 lol Putting my sp3 in stock since I always thought awd is more fun at straight line and I won't have to fight TQ with pte6062

It is amazing how fragile they are compared to the MS3 considering how many parts are shared.

Please forgive. New owner, new member real old problem apparently. Haven't quite figured out how to navigate website yet. I recently purchased a 2013 Speed3 with the tech package. 90K on the clock. Don't know if it's related (possibly could be) but swapped out the factory airbox and the exhaust started smoking after long idled. Stock turbo, factory recommend oil (0W-20 synthetic). My initial guess and research says the turbo seal is on the way out. I intend to swap to a Garret GT3071R as soon as my paycheck allows but are there any ideas that will mitigate the smoke until I can get the swap done? Your patience is appreciated.

Factory recommend oil is 5w-30. 0w-20 is for the non speed versions. Smoking turbos can be a problem on this platform but without the right oil there is no telling if you have a problem.

Would be a good idea to check the compression before spending any money on upgrades

Thanks. Compression check (both of them) is normal according to local Mazda dealer as well as crankcase pressure. The 0W-20 is what they told me they put in. Very frustrating. These guys don’t seem to know their own product or if they do they are just trying to avoid doing an expensive job that they’re going to have to eat. Normally do all my own work but they’re the ones who warrantied the used car. I’ll change out the oil ASAP. Any other advise is still welcome.

Sounds like your dealer are idiots or do not have any experience with the MZR platform.

Definitely change oil to proper weight.

Another thing to check, although it is difficult to get to, is the PCV valve. If its clogged you can get poor oil drainage and the pressure can escape through the turbo oil seals.

If you do it yourself, it's a good days worth of work. Buy a new OEM PCV valve, do not buy aftermarket. You will also need a new gasket for the throttle body and Intake manifold, since they are not meant to be reused.

If you paid the dealership to change the oil i would make them change it to the correct spec

At this point I’m rather exasperated with the dealership. I’m changing the oil and filter out myself today. The whole experience with the dealership has been a s@&* show. I’ve made 6 months worth of payments on the loan. They’ve had the car for a total of 3@ 1/2 ! And the thing is I really love the car.

For some reason can't find any info on this anywhere, was wondering if the jdm mzr would be a plug and play swap? just been weighing my options of a new stock motor or a rebuild and the swap would definitely be the cheaper route

    Hey guys.
I have searched here and everywhere to see if I could find a clue to my problem .
I have a 2010 MS3 with 71000 miles. It recently threw a code for the secondary O2 sensor. Then I noticed the exhaust was smoking, but only under a specific condition. If I take my foot off the gas to slow down, when I accelerate again, I get a fair amount of blueish smoke from the exhaust. It does not smoke at startup, but after running a long time, I will get some at idle.
Startup is rough and will sometimes give me a multiple misfire code. After warm up though, there is no rough idle or surging.
From my research I see it could be valve seals, rings, turbo, or pcv. I will be doing a compression test and changing spark plugs soon and I will change the pcv too, but it looks like a real pain in the ass on this car. I was hoping someone would have an idea.
    Thanks+

Sounds like the turbo seal are going already,

If the valve seal is leaking it would smoke at start up specially cold start after sitting the car for over night.
also when decelerating would puff bluish smoke.

If its the piston rings it would smoke everytime.

its its the pcv then it would smoke on decel too

Stock PCV setup isn't great. Before I fixed my own setup, I was consuming a lot of oil and smoking hard on decel. I'd start with PCV and check couplers for oil, etc.
