trying to pull the axles from the hub, nothing is working. 5-ton puller won't budge them. but i notice some blue heat scoring low on the threads and onto the splines. has anyone had this problem before? i ran it hard last year at a track day, but i wouldn't think there would be enough heat form the brakes (i do brake late, and hard) to send heat scoring all the way to the axle shaft. anyone experience this before?

Check the teeth. On my car, they are 1/2 a tooth off and won't ever come out.

    Ugh.

Im my experience, the best thing to do would be to pull the knuckle and shaft to get it pressed out.

The heat treating is unlikely a result of your track day, given that you have a gigantic heat sink on the hub (the brake rotor).
Also, if you got the shaft hot enough for discoloration, your wheel bearings were subjected to even worse heat.(the bearing isn't going out, is it?)
Most likely the discoloration is due to the manufacturering process, IMO

If you want to try another method on car, you can get the biggest 3 jaw puller you can find (8"+). Otherwise it's pulling the knuckle and getting it into a press.
