Yeah piston speeds at that rod ratio is causing a LOT of force.

Heavy duty wrist pins would’ve been the answer. They were skipped due to weight. Fuck

I meant more along is the head salvageable block is obviously not but I would trust the rods and Pistons. Would have the crank magnafluxed. Can the manifolds be reused if you go with a different setup?

Based on the last two comments longer rods and stronger wrist pins

So the head is smashed pretty bad in cylinder 4. Probably scrap for sure.

Valve train and cams appear to be in good shape. No signs of damage at all. This is good.

Keeping with these cams and a k20 the manifolds work well. Even with the long rod setup I believe.

if I went k24 the IM would be good but header would need to be swapped out to be optimal. It’ll work but it won’t be ideal.

Would you trust the rods/pistons if we find signs of bent pins? I could get heavy duty pins that’s no problem but the damage has probably already been done if any rod/piston binds up at all I would think.

Intake manifold was also loaded with milkshake and shrapnel. I hope none of that metal made it into any of the other cylinders. If it did they’re probably all fucked

The rods and Pistons will 100% be a judgment call once they are out and cleaned. They would have to look perfect for me to consider trying to reuse them. Also depends on exactly what failed, you need to inspect that part of the other cylinders

If it were me, I'd replace everything. Lunching an engine is a traumatic event to parts and I wouldn't want to risk a second one. Just my $.02.

If it were me I'd replace everything minus the cams as long as their journals and lobes aren't damaged by debris. The abuse you put an engine through is too much of a risk to reuse some of those parts.

There is a guy local to me selling a complete Ferrera valve train for a K series. 1100 dollars I think he wants. Not sure if you'd be interested in that stuff.

I am/was running a Ferrea setup here. Not sure if I should reuse the valve train?

Cams look great but once they’re out I’ll know for sure.

As for everything else…boss man at my shop here says he wouldn’t reuse any of it either. Says it’s not worth the risk if another component is even a little bit fucked up that’s it. Here we are again.

Seems like the better idea is to start fresh with everything other than cams, maybe valve train and maybe timing chain since it’s a nice upgraded chain?

If a piston let go the valves in that cylinder are fucked. Springs etc depending on how fucked the valve is

Oh the valve are fucked for sure. I’d like to use the springs retainers/keepers all that shit. And the cams. If I need new springs that’s ok I guess. They’re not too bad.

Only problem with using the cams is I need high comp again. That’s expensive if I don’t reuse shit and I definitely don’t think I should reuse shit

Sounds like it's time to go turbo...

Then I gotta build the transmission and do a fuel system. As much as I want to go turbo, if I want to keep tracking the car it’s gotta stay NA for now

Based on the pics you've posted, it looks like you need to rebuild the transmission anyways.

In all seriousness, is it possible that something in the trans seized and caused all that carnage? I know it's unlikely, but....

I didn’t want to go here but this was my initial thought. Why?

cause this transmission was freshly rebuilt and installed last Wednesday before the event. It felt fantastic on the street. Felt great on track too.

All new synchros and new oem shifter cables. The thought crossed my mind but I just can’t see how it could happen.

I guess I’ll be stealing the bellhousing off my other transmission for this one

I went back and looked and it's just the bellhousing that was broken, so, ignore me I guess.

Bellhousing break still sucks. Hoping the gear set is OK still.

Sunday I should be pulling the motor. We’ll know more after that

Are you going to open up the transmission as well and double check that?

Also what about a supercharger instead of a turbo? Stock fuel system should be able to work with 5-7 psi

Im not sure if theres anything to inspect in the transmission? might be worth a quick check but it should be ok.

Ive thought about a stock block with a rotrex kit. It would make mid to high 300's at the wheel which would be killer. Maybe something to think about. They do come with added heat and an RPM limit which i was trying to avoid before.

Maybe i should add this to the option board though. It would put me up in higher classes but i should still be competitive

It's generally considered to be more expensive to spin faster than it is to boost an engine.

Yup. I have learned many things here.

a clone of this engine would be cool.
or a k24 even a stock one with a k20 head, valve train, cams, oil pump, that’s a recipe for a low effort 240whp. 7600rpm rev limit. Far cry from what I had but it would be competitive at minimum.

A stock k20 with valve train and cams I’ve had before, that setup was OK but I don’t know if I want to go back to stock. My cams would be useless in a stock compression engine which is unfortunate.

Going boost means oil coolers and shit and I’ve liked not having to deal with that currently.

We will see. Thought about grabbing a k20 to finish the season but funds aren’t there right now. Bummer
