So after going round and round trying to find a good place for a power wire to go through the firewall (4 gauge), I have determined that Mazda did not want anyone doing this job. WTF.

After speaking to @JohnnyTightlips (Gen 1) it looks like I might be able to use the space behind the glove compartment. However, there's just a big plastic piece there. No idea what it's for. Can I drill a hole perhaps off to the side of it? It'll be a bitch to get to in the engine bay side as there's a metal bracket blocking that whole area.

Any Gen 2 people find a decent place to run a damn power wire? Preferably not off to the side of the engine bay exposing it to weather (I've seen people do that).

    Gracias!

You can pass 4g through the same hole as the hood release cable. Just seal it back up with silicon or strip caulk as the oem grommet wont fit with your wire also in the hole.

Totally fine to drill a hole in that plastic plug.

What the hell is this for?? Doesn’t look connected to anything. I’m fine drilling it but don’t wanna have to replace it. It’s also black on the firewall side.

    That's where everyone runs wires.

so after a bit of digging...i think i know what that is. perhaps those with gen juans can confirm. on the gen juans that grommet actually has wires running through it. it's used to pass some large wire bundle. however, on the pu's they must've decided to run those a different way. but wanted to reuse the paneling or something, i dunno. and instead of just covering that hole, they just filled it with that plastic plug. that's the only thing i can think of based on the pictures i'm seeing on other forums of juan people running wires through that 'grommet'. i just wanted to confirm it wasn't anything important so if i did something unintentional to it i wasn't screwing myself/car.

    here's a reference to what i think i'm seeing:

That sounds familiar from when we did a sub in my old juan.

    Don't overthink it.

That firewall hole is for the Right Hand drive Axela version, that hole is for the steering column.

Pass wires through it and forget about it.

All I had to do was take a minute and look up the part number. Wiring harness hole cover. Popped it out and yup it’s no biggie.
