HPFP internals required for my mods?

I have a 2012 Speed 3 that is stock except for a custom fab catback exhaust. I want to get the HPS Performance intake (https://hpsperformanceproducts.com/...d-3-2-3l-turbo-827-601?variant=32478092525665) which is the same diameter as the stock intake. This means it wouldn't require a tune (correct me if I'm wrong). So my question is if the HPFP internals are needed for these mods. It would be under 290 HP.

 

Yes you need hpfp upgrade for any power mods especially on gen 2 speeds.

As for the intake the general recommendations is that for best practice and driveability even if it's "stock sized maf" that you should tune for it to do a proper MAF calibration. But it also "should" be fine with just hpfp internals, this is especially important if replacing the TIP with the increased airflow.

I am personally not familiar with HPS for intakes

 

Honestly putting on a sri without replacing the tip is kinda dumb. You can get a whole kit from corksport for just a little more money

I have had this exact intake on my car for over 100 k miles with no complaints

That all being said if I were doing it from scratch I would get a 3 inch intake hpfp upgrade and tuning solution all at the same time vs the stockish sized intake

 

I also ran this intake for 130,000 miles with zero complaints. Actually have it sitting in the attic needing a new home. OP if you are interested I'll make a for sale post in classifieds.

 

I've had that intake on my car for 10 years and have nothing but complaints about it... Chewing maf orings, clamps backing off, finicky connection to seal. Better once I just replaced their clamps, sanded down the oring hole and reglued the MAF straighter as that came loose after a few years too.
I know I'm not the only with that's had the MAF orings go, and when I say go I'm on number 8 and I even use silicon oring lube these days.
Even utilizing the stabilizer nut can make it off canter onto the turbo easily.

That being said there's probably more people out there that have been running it without these issues than have. I still have a 3" HTP ready to go when I want to retune.

I do agree with EB just grab a 3" intake from the get go if you're adding more more down that line especially a different turbo

 

Agree with both EB and Awa, OP if you ever plan on making more than 300 whp I'd just go ahead and get at least and 3 inch intake.

If you aren't ready for a full tune I'd grab a Cobb AP from Freektune, he includes his OTS tune with the AP which will take care of the MAF Cal for the larger intake.

Man could be, I haven't had issues helping buddies in their cars with other intakes.

But again I'm only one dude out there, vs a whole wack of positive reviews for the corksport intakes so my experience should absolutely be taken with a grain of salt at best.
