Hey all. I have huge fender gap on my 6 and the PO says he thinks he installed the Bilsteins with the perch upside down. Does he mean the top plate and bearing? All the pictures I can find are generic so I'm not sure what they look like.

I'm guessing I need to pull the whole assembly to fix this and I'll need a spring compressor, right? It is also still on stock springs so I'm thinking I should pick up a set if I have to take it apart anyway. Any suggestions?

How many hours is this job approximately?

    Will I need an alignment?

Sorry if these are dumb questions but I had an MS3 before and it obviously has very different components.

So I posted a few weeks ago about my HUGE fender gap. PO says he installed the lower perch on the Bilstein B6s upside down. I pulled it out tonight and installed the H&R lowering springs and looked at the perch. The perch seems the same on both sides. Either way we are talking 1/2" difference at best. I took it all apart and looked at it. I made sure my bearing was in good shape and I put it all back together making sure the bottom of the spring was in correct spot. I also made sure the top was rotated to the correct orientation. I also made sure the notch was completely seated in the knuckle. I put it all back together and I still can fit a cinderblock in the gap. Can anyone offer up any advice on this? I'm ready to pull my hair out.

These 2 are before the spring install:

and this 1 is after the spring install:

It's still not as high as a monster truck. thumb_720_450_monster-truck_shutterstock_5659207.jpg

I'm not too familiar with those shocks do they have rings at the top or the bottom did you spin them this adjusting ride height?

Also cars can sit higher for a bit after weights been off the suspension fully it needs to re settle

Well I have some 17s for sale now. Got this whole setup with 0 miles for less than the rims or tires would have cost alone.

I would loosen your lower shock bolt which sits in the control arm bushing. Then, with the weight of the car on some ramps, tighten it back up. You could have not tightened the lower bushing with the weight of the car so the preload is not set properly and causing the high ride height.

I think the preload on your bushings is not correct. Loosen all the bolts on rubber bushings and tighten them with the weight of the car at level ride height.

B6 is made for stock height. You need B8 shocks if you want to lower the car, together with springs that allows it to be lowered

Pretty sure @phate knows how to make B6s into coilovers.
