Hey everyone! New to this forum, but bought this back in March of '17. Found out it had a very storied past after I got it and it's been nothing but problems, including a ZZB last summer. BUT, its back up and running. Still sorting out some stuff (god damn P2187) but it's getting there. Looking forward to learn and chat here with everyone!

A lot of speeds in Jersey have history. Once upon a time there was a big group up there.

    Welcome!

    Thanks everyone!

I just ordered one! Should be in tomorrow. I've done a smoke test like 4 times and didn't see anything creep out anywhere, so I'm crossing my fingers that it's the purge valve.

Yaaa... mine (with the previous/original owner) was probably one of the more, famous/infamous Speeds, depending on who you ask I guess. I dug around a bit on the history and oohhh boy was this car involved in some drama lol. Hoping to give this car a second life in a more positive way. So far so good!

    LOL

I always wondered what happened to that car!!! He had some nice set ups and always took care of that car.

Once upon a time that car was pushing the limits of the platform. You are right in that there was some drama towards the end.

How together is the car? Was it missing pieces when you got it?

When I got it I never really noticed that you could still see the name of the sticker that was on the roof. My friend noticed and we Googled it and fell down a rabbit hole. That's when I started finding out the history. Found some videos on YouTube of it putting down like 800hp+ which at the time seemed crazy. I reached out to Gerry after I traced it to him and he was really cool. Can tell he really took care of it before he sold it. I didn't buy it from him tho. I know who he sold it to and have a decent idea of what happened to it after he sold it until I eventually bought it, but for the sake of potential drama I'll just leave it at that wrt to who had their hands on it lol.

On the surface it looked solid. Only had 39k miles, was extremely clean, not a spot of rust. It was completely stock except for the Sonic Tuning suspension. Mechanically seemed solid too when I test drove it and inspected it. Just a few minor things like alignment, suspension knock that sounded like strut mounts or something stupid, and some small other things.... Welp. That knock turned out to be it was completely missing the end links and the sway bar was banging on the control arm, there were a ton of random electrical issues that popped up over time because a mix of someone previous being careless and just wear, including one for an injector plug that eventually played a role in the ZZB, HPFP was missing the bucket(!), had the Bose head unit but was missing the Bose amp so I had like no usable audio until I finally replaced the head unit, noticed only a few months ago that the driver side door panel is grey and the rest of the interior is black (no idea how I didn't notice that before), random bolts were missing around the motor/trans/turbo out of view, and a few other things I've noticed over the 2 years I've owned it. Some of the things I probably should have noticed before I bought it but a lot of them especially the electrical issues and missing bolts in hidden spots I never would have found upon the initial inspection. Is what it is I guess. Seemed like a really clean buy at the time but turned out to be a bit of a disaster. Replaced the motor after it being down for 8 months (back on the road in January) and still just chasing a few things. Hopefully I'll finally have full confidence to really have a lot of fun with it soon. I still love the car though despite all the nonsense. Just trying to get it to a certain point so i can go forward with a positive mindset on the car and really enjoy it.

Wow man. Good attitude. I spent a few nights trying to change my serp belt and wanted to kick the shit outta mine. I didn’t though cuz #myBaby. And finally for the new belt on :) Props to your patience.

Nice to see someone taking time to make things right. The car will give back what you put into it. Grats and welcome!
