I am new to the platform and somewhat mechanically capable, I do all the work on my WRX and STi, but unfamiliar with Mazda and anything with an HPFP. Guidance would be helpful.

The seller tells me that the issue came up on the car and he was led to believe it was from a corroded battery wire to the starter. While in the shop to fix this issue the car was put into anti-theft mode. A locksmith was used to unlock the ECU and gain access to the car. The battery wires along with the starter were replaced. The seller says he drove the car back fine, got gas, the car started after that. When he went to start it again it fired up fine then soon died. He believes they botched the starter fix (draining the battery made no sense and kicked the car into anti-theft) and maybe the alternator shorted out and now can’t cycle electricity for more than a few seconds.

Any tips or good ideas would be great. Plan to check fuses/relays, check grounds, maf/map sensor, cam sensors, and functionality of in-tank fuel pump. Thank you.
