I was trying to decide whether to resurface the dual-mass flywheel or to get a new one. I read repeatedly about not resurfacing DMFs but the machine shop dude said he’d do it and thought it would be fine. Eventually I saw this post:

And so I decided to save money and do it. I know the concern is at least partially because of the springs. Mine has a little more rotation and tilt than a video I saw on YouTube of a new Mazdaspeed one. Hopefully I won’t regret it :) He did a good job I think.

Just sharing so others know it’s possible if their machine shop can do it.

Finding a shop which can is tough. I scrapped mine. Got a new LUK for $550 shipped. Ebay, rockauto etc.

I seriously considered the LUK one (it looks literally identical to Mazda’s, which also has LUK on it...) but I’m already over budget on this rebuild so $95 for the resurface was hard to resist.

I have not yet in 14 years of owning one, seen a successful dual mass machining.

And LUK is the oem supplier. 450 bucks difference than machining. Which is usually 250 for dual mass. Hopefully they know.

Is there anything I should be looking for with it? I wouldn’t know if I got a deal since I’ve never had it done before :)

No idea. Thickness is key. Mine was loaded in hot spots.
