I'm starting to get everything I need to do a timing chain job, including hpfp upgrade.

Lots of resources on how to do this around here, extremely useful!.

However the cam and tdc locking tool/pin I'm looking around the internet to get, as per all my other questions this far I'm trying to save as much as possible, I haven't cheaped out in the timing kit, all OEM, however all the specific looking tool ls for the engine are coming back at about £90, this seems a little steep for just a metal plate and a pin.

However there are some more generic kits from eBay, they say are compatible with this platform but then look at other listings that are for the exact same kit (looking at the pictures) and they only show ford/Mazda up to 2.0l

    For example

    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/226276508168

    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/252322246125

There are numerous ones around, they look similar to each other, some say 2.3, others don't.

Question is, anyone got experience with this? Does this engine share the same tools to some of the other ford/Mazda engines?

I found one stating it's for the 2.3, it's 60% cheaper than say somewhere like corksport

    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/325278799958

    Vs

    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/184738464160

Again, don't want to cheap out if it's going to cause problems, but this will probably be a single use only (I could sell it on afterwards though...)

I could just go for a cheap one and complain to the seller if I have issues, but by that time I will probably either have a wrecked engine or will be sending it back and getting another kit, waiting a week for another one to come.

I did earlier today, but shipping and import to the UK made it more than corksport.

Totally agree not to go for anything that doesn't mention the 2.3, but it's eBay, one of the listings I saw was clearly not a massivespeed tool but yet they took the description from it, for somethings it probably doesn't matter but I generally take eBay listings with a pinch of salt.

While yes it does say for 2.3 on the listing, but if the same kit is being sold elsewhere where it doesnt say, it's where I get suspicious and go ask questions.

I forget where I got mine but I think it’s the Massive kit on Corksport. At least it looks exactly the same. If you were local I’d just let you borrow mine.

I saw some specifically for the mazdaspeed on eBay for less than £40 (search for Massive Cam Timing Chain Alignment Tools MZR 2.3 Turbo DISI). Not sure how correct they are and they don’t look like mine. Some of them come with a third tool that I’m not sure what it’d be for.
