Was on the old mazdaspeed forums but just found this after a youngling had me busy for the last couple of years. Glad to see this forum.

Have a lot of supporting mods and have a question for people about a new turbo. Where should is be posting that? I was thinking general discussion but don't want to put it in the won't place.

    Thanks

Welcome to mso! There's plenty of turbo threads around, general discussion works. Heck we could chat about it here too

Welcome, here is perfect! I have almost 70k on my Corksport cst4. Very happy. They now have more options depending on how far you want to go as well.

Well currently getting a Freektune on my stock turbo and it looks like the turbo is tired (won't hit more than 13psi at wot). Looking at either getting a gtx 2867r or a gtx3071r. I do not currently have any plans to build out the block and may add a meth kit later on (still unsure about that). I will also be putting a UR turbo back exhaust on the car.

I have read several threads on here about turbos and I know that Awafrican likes the 2867r. Just curious what everyone's opinion is.

I use this as a daily and also track it maybe once or twice a year.

The 2867r is a great turbo that fits well with stock block spools fast and pulls hard! Plus it's bolt on. If you're looking at slightly cheaper option the bnrs3v4 is also a 2867 now the GTX 2867r is a ball bearing vs while the bnr is journal bearing however the bnr is 360deg thrust so that's a plus.
Now the 3071 gives you more room to play and spools fairly quickly too you'll want some more fueling to take advantage of it.

Personally I'd be more inclined to look at a returnless port Injection for 5th or 6th port over meth.

I'm not sure what a return less port injection is.

I was thinking that the 3071 would give me some room to grow but I think the 2867 would give the power needed with the faster spool.

I'm thinking that 350-400 bhp would be the max power I would want from this car.

I would personally rather push a small turbo than neuter a big turbo. Why have more lag if you aren't using the top end

Good point. Does anyone think I will have fitment issues with the UR DP and the turbo IWG flapper?

Also I would love to use some e85 or something but it is not easily available in the Memphis area.

If you come across the border to Mississippi there is 2 e85 stations I believe. 1 in Southaven at hwy51 and church rd and the other in olive branch at Goodman rd and pleasant hill.

I have used the one on church in the past and several locals (other platforms) test it on a regular basis and post the results to Facebook. Good luck.

sounds like a 2867 sized turbo would be good for you, IWG should not be an issue with the UR DP, only clearance issues I've heard of is with the CS DP on non k04 / CS turbos but that could have been fixed by now not sure.

    Thanks for everyone's help.

Those places in Southaven are about 45 min from me so it doesn't seem logical to do drive that far just to fill up.

Dayton do you have that silver MS3 and do you drive around Collierville?

I did have a silver Genpu, but I had to trade it in about 3 months ago. Last I heard it was sent down to Louisiana somewhere. I honestly miss that car but it had to be done. But no I was rarely ever in Collierville, I live down here in Mississippi and only went through Memphis on my way up to Dyersburg.

There is a silver one I see often in Collierville and was just curious. Sorry about your loss. These cars are a lot of fun

Do you think that I would have a over heating issue on a 20 min. track session with the 2867 turbo? I have a CPE TMIC and wont be going to a FMIC.

you talking coolant or BATs? coolant should be fine as all the stock ducting will be fine, TMIC works really well when moving probaby fine.

@Sho or @Maisonvi would be better off to tell you about temps on the track than I

I'm talking about BATs more. I know that turbos going full boost create a lot of heat. I heard that this can cause boost creep if the temps keep climbing.

I only track once a year because of time but don't want to wreck the 2867r turbo or motor because of heat or boost creep.

Sorry thought responded 2867r with a good tmic should be just fine. In fact staying tmic means less work fixing ducting in the front from a Fmic that you need to channel air properly to keep coolant tempts down.

Thanks for the response. I have ordered the 2867r and should be installing it sometime soon. Pretty stoked to get the tuning started and see the gains.
