So I just purchased/received a Eonon GA6163f, which was released a couple months ago. Before purchasing I saw reviews that show that the new unit still requires you to splice in RCAs or use a PAC AOEM-MAZ2 harness to avoid any volume/hiss issues caused by the HU built in amp.

**EDIT** to save time and headache, just do this:

So I purchased a PAC AOEM-MAZ2 as well. I'm currently trying to follow the instructions that came with the PAC and I'm not really understanding their diagram according to the cables actually provided. I've pictured both below and tried to label things in case it helps.

What I want to confirm is whether I have the cables in the right order (supposed to be plug and play) and/or if its totally wrong. By the diagram it looks wrong but based on fitment and harness order, I can't see any other combination really happening.

Can anyone confirm here that I'm on the right track? I've spent about a week trying to find articles/write-ups that actually show what it physically looks like when you want an new HU and want to keep the original Bose speakers and sub by using the PAC secondary harness, even though its recommended by so many.

Do I even need the PAC? So many articles say I should use it, but now I'm not so sure.

Tried install without PAC first. Went as expected... Had hiss and static even with radio volume at 0 and had exreme volume even on lowest settings. Installed pac and had same issues. A member on another forum said i got the wrong pac and that I need to only use PAC OEM1. They do the same thing based on product descriptions and others have reported using aoem-maz2 with success so I don't know what is wrong here.

In either case there are other issues with the head unit so its being returned. Dead screen pixels and it disabled my digital climate controls in the stock dash lcd.

It's been a while since I messed with audio on these cars. I had a base model 2011 Mazda 3 and I used the MAZ2 just fine. but I thought the MAZ2 is for non-bose systems if you were looking for a true plug and play kinda thing. I'll edit this post if I find out something useful.

Yes the package says non bose but plenty of people were reporting that it works fine for bose. Maybe it was all in their head? Lol

I've been searching for info about a week now... No luck.

I've seen the MAZ 2 work on bose when trying to add a 2nd amp and sub. It's only being used for the ignition source for the amp and the RCA.

Everything I read said the headunit you have is compatible with the bose system. Someone from Eonon said, "There is no seperate Bose control. Our headunit will provide audio signal and an AMP wire to trigger the amplifier"

    Then I found

"the unit was initially plug and play and the BOSE system worked. The sound however was quite distorted and there was quite an annoying hum when the unit was at low - zero volume. I performed the harness modification to wire up some RCA male cables and plugged it into the units LOW inputs to bypass the built in amp. God behold, the hum is gone and the volume was linear."

I'm not sure what he means by harness modification. So what happens if you plug the white end of the maz2 into the headunit, then the red end of the maz 2 into the car harness. Then run the rca's from the maz2 back into the headunit's low input spot?

Have you tried it that way?

I decided to return the unit. Long story short, I don't have time for fixing a sub-par sounding stereo. All said and done, I would never ever recommend an Eonon unit to anyone unless they are a car stereo expert, don't mind soldering, don't mind studying wire diagrams and don't mind messing with Android roms to get things squared away properly.

With this said, I found a perfect resource that shows everything, including the aux fix and RCA splice with great pictures on Imgur. (right hand drive though and the previous model stereo, this doesn't change anything because the issues are exactly the same and the solutions are the same). But hopefully it helps someone going down the same road in the future.

Just wanted to give another update regarding the return process with Eonon. It was a nightmare. I had to threaten them with a report to the FTC to get my refund. I had a really terrible customer service experience with them. I would stay away from any of their products in the future.

I've read more negative reviews than positive on the Eonon units, glad I spent the extra money and went with a pioneer
