Blackms3 goes semi bt

    Got my bnr s4 on monday and started removing stuff that night. Tuesday morning i got into removing the dp and mani studs and removing the egr and all the wonderful stuff that keeps the turbo in place and all the oil and coolant lines.

    I must say the overall process is pretty straight forward but it is time consuming. I had did this install solo for 99% of it, i had my gf hold the turbo which i connected the support bracket to it. Once i got that done i started to put all the studs back in place. I had to loosing some of the ex. Mani studs to get the dp studs all lined up but after that i worked on all the coolant lines and oil drain and oil feed. One thing i would like to point out is that you should probably tighten the coolant line bolts b4 installing the turbo as without the right tools u may have to remove it just to tighten those down. Lucky for me i have flex head and other kool little toys. I also extended the heater hose as its a must for clearance even with my 3" intake.

    I took the time once the turbo stuff was done to find and mount a new home for my cobb ebcs. Ill post a picture of its location as i think it worked out well. Also had to put the ecu on the fuse cover for now. Croksport has a nice solution but its pricey at $170.

    First start up went well with no leaks at all. So its deff worth it to take ur time and make sure everything is done right. I wanna say this install took me a good 7 hours but again i was doing it solo in my garage and i like to be detailed about my work.

    For those wondering rob finkle is tuning this beast as he has been my good friend and tuner for the past 2+ years @rfinkle2;

    Good looks on the BT. Do you have any plans for meth or ethanol?

    yes, I will be running meth once we finish the 93 tune. shooting for 400hp

    I have been running meth with a d10 nozzle on my ko4 for 2 years. going to run the same set up on the bnr unless rob thinks we need more meth but I doubt it.

    Well a little updating.

    Kinda finished the 93 map. Vdyno says around 325/330 tq. I wasnt looking to tap out 93 and i will never run a 93 only map unless i am out of meth hehe.

    From there we moved onto meth. I am on the 2nd revision from that and man does she move now. I am at work today and tomorrow so idk what vd has me at but i gotta say 340ish rn. My goal is a nice 370-380 map daily and a 420-450 kill map. I am greedy for power so ill prob run a 400 map as a daily lmaoo

    Once I got a 26psi kill map on my 30r I never went back to my baby 24psi map

    haha I figured as much. goal right now is about 25 psi.

    3" intake cant flow anymore so moving to a 3.5"

    You're on stock engine internals, right? I'm not sure about on the S4, but on the S3, my WG spring pressure is 14psi and I have no trouble at all with my 3-port running 25psi on my ethanol map with plenty of WGDC to spare. All of that to say, if it were me, I probably would've stuck with spring pressure set at 15psi, especially on stock engine internals. Now if your tuner said otherwise, then just ignore me, LOL.

    And word to the wise: 400+whp = 400+whp's worth of heat. Even with a ton of methanol to keep things cooled down, your ringlands are at risk. Heck, I run ethanol AND methanol (which cools my combustion chamber a ton between the two) and I still won't push past 380 on stock block due to the relationship of power to heat. Just my .02. Rob may tell you something different. That's what my tuner told me, though.

    Yes stock block

    I haven't seen a issue with running more preload. I had adjusted it when i had a cat in. I since removed it but never turned back down the preload. I dont see a issue at this point.

    I do hear you about running 400 hp. We will see how she feels when we get close. Its just a number but again i will prob run it around 380 or so.

    I'll tell you like Justin (FREEKTUNE) told me. 380/380 or so is at the upper limit of safety. Beyond that point, the risk/reward ratio climbs exponentially. Going north of that power level is a very good recipe for cracked ringlands (heck, it can happen anyways), and going north of that torque, especially down low in the powerband, or if it comes on too quickly, can easily vent your block. Some engines are stronger than others, but if it's your DD, be very careful tempting fate.

    But Rob knows all this. You're in good hands. I'm just throwing my .02 out there...

    All joking aside, i do appreciate the tips. Even tho rob knows i am greedy for power he will not let me do something stupid.

    380/380 sounds like fun tbh lol.

    I have been pretty lucky with my ms3. I ran it at 330/380-400tq for about 3 years. Rob thinks it a freak. I agree lol. Best 60-100 on ko4 was 4.95.

    I ised to mess with my ko4 tune all the time but i wont be messing with the bt tune. To easy to fuck shit up at this power level, i will continue to learn from rob and his tuning ways.

    Tbh rob knows exactly what i want out my car and i know he will deliver. I must say tho lately i keep spending more and more money on her. Buying this amd that. Going bt brought the fun back to modding this car for me.

    Yep, that's very quick for a K04. Fastest I had on K04 was 5.2 seconds. Of course, your shorter Genwon gearing and 100lbs less weight helps. Nowadays, I'm in the 4.6 second range on the BNR S3. There's really not that big of a difference between K04s and fast spooling MT/BT until after 100 mph or so when the power difference really starts to shine. Don't get me wrong, 4.6 seconds feels incredibly quick. But rolling around with K04 Speeds has them pretty close until we hit 5th and get in the 100+ mph range. Then they fade away into the background.

    4.6 sec would be nice, we are still tuning right now so when its finish I will see were we are at, I been telling people that for over a year that the ko4 is close to bt under 100. bt people got butt hurt but its true. now that I am bt, even if my 60-100 is the same it sure does feel faster.

    Yeah, aerodynamic drag is exponential. So when you start hitting triple digits, the difference in having 320whp vs. 380whp quickly becomes much more apparent. 100 isn't the "magic number" or anything, but just seems to be the point at which the difference starts becoming really clear, at least in my practical experience. It's also about when you shift from 4th to 5th, so that could be part of it too. During the lower speeds, since the torque levels are comparable, the acceleration is pretty comparable too until drag becomes a big part of the picture.

    completely agree, even top of 4th shows the difference.

    It's very true. I had K04 cars hold hard with me up until about the top of fourth on my 30r. After that speed there's no contest really.
