Looking over some data recently. This is very interesting.
It’s noticeable in the video. You can hear the RPM oscillating. My tuner mentioned it first. After looking at the data we see what’s going on.
you’ll need to zoom but you can clearly see rpm vs throttle. Then you notice the spikes. Looking at wheel speed on the left side makes things pretty clear. Wheel spin. Seems to be on corner exit of course. Usually some curbs involved but damn. That’s some wheel spin for sure.
    potential_wheelspin.png

I picked up an aftermarket LSD to help remedy this. Something that’ll actually fully lock.

My tuner also mentioned motor mounts. I’m on oem 200k mile units. Rear mount has been upgraded of course but rest are oem.

Time for a full motor mount kit maybe? I’m considering it but it ain’t cheap. It would cover rear mount, passenger mount, and transmission mount. 70a for the bushing stiffness. Probably a good idea or maybe overkill?

My Mazda had the full Damond mount kit. First I had the race bushings or whatever and that was hell. Later on went to his “street” bushings and that was livable.

Conflicted on if I should spend the cash on a full mount kit or just keep on sending it?

You can drive around it but it's going to slow you down.

I thought Honda guys were all about pouring window epoxy in the motor mounts to make them stiffer

Energy can only be transferred. Left to its own, it goes where it wants to, right?
Will the LSD tighten the car up? Not familiar with LSD in FWD.

So my oem mounts are just big rubber blobs. There’s nowhere to fill unfortunately.

It’ll kill the wheel spin at corner exit which is worth tenths on its own. Specially when you have 10+ corners where you’re dealing with slippage. As for energy, it’s the torque right. It’s either going to the wheels/ground or it’s being wasted by wheel spin and engine slop. It’s probably not a huge gain but again we’re talking tenths.

rockauto I could get some aftermarket units for around 350usd for mid range stuff.
Aftermarket full kit is 590usd. Local shop has stock otherwise they are made to order and take 5-6 weeks. Regular price is 630usd so it’s a bit of a deal right now

Cars had some minor progress over the last few weeks.

I’ve moved the engine out of my kitchen and it’s back in the car
    IMG_5943.jpeg

It’s stupid cold over here now so this is probably as far as I’m getting for the next little while. So many things to do still lol.

First event is May 25th and I’ll need minimum 1 track day before then to shake the car down. Hopefully my simple setup is effective

Have you considered something like this to increase working space in your garage?

edit: Is the amazon link showing up? If not, google
Ultrawall 48" Wall Mounted Folding Workbench, Heavy Duty Foldable Work Table, Collapsible Desk for Workshop, Garage, Office, Home, Holds Up to 550 lb

The link isn’t showing but I googled it.

Something like this would be huge for me. I’ve actually been thinking about it for a while.

It could easily fit on the right side wall just above my cardboard pile. Currently I use my blue bin as a table and that things outside when I’m in the garage. If I had the fold down bench I could work in there with the garage closed. It would be sickkk

Home Depot makes one too and it’s reasonably priced

I was looking for one with drop down legs, as without you are trusting the studs (and that you hit them well). You can make them yourself out of 2x4s and some hardware if you really wanted sturdy/custom sizes.

The legs add a ton of weight capacity too but they might get in my way. It’s a good idea though.
I’m seriously considering this for a garage upgrade though. I do enough out there that it would be nice lol

Engines back in the car. It was a coool -10c (14f) today but I got some good work done.

    Suspensions all buttoned up
    Axles are in
All motor mounts are done up
    Manifolds are installed

Just need to plug everything in and get the radiator installed then I can flip the car around and begin on the rear end which will be terrible. Much rust.

I got some fancy new motor mounts and I installed them in the wrong order. Trying to get the rear mount(same style as the speed) to line up was hell lol. I guess there’s a reason they say to do the rear mount first. There’s 0 play with these mounts. 70a duro bushings. More than I wanted but whatver. Race car

I’m gonna loosen all the mount brackets from the chassis then run the engine for 30 seconds or so. Apparently everything should make its way to its happy place then I can retorque it all.

Got some work done over the last few days. It’s been cold and snowing like crazy but I just closed my garage door and sent it.

    Cars all wired up/plumbed up.
Ive bled the coolant successfully so thats good. Took a bit for the thermostat to open being -20c outside yesterday.
With my new motor mounts it sounds like the engine is INSIDE the cabin lol. So much engine noise. Even the engine itself is louder. Being in the garage doesnt help but yea damn. It is really race car now that is for sure.

Its been between -10(14) and -20c(-4). In the garage it’s right around 0 maybe just above. Totally work able. The space is small and my body heat is strong lol.

Much snow outside. We have double this now easily. I cant see the house across the street anymore lol
    [IMG]

This is my work space with the garage closed lol. My back is up against my tool box.
Good enough I say? Commitment is real. This ain’t for the weak

Next up is to put the crash bar/bumper back on the car.

I had great plans for a complete rear end refresh. All new bushings, new camber arms. The works. Of the 3 bushing sets for the rear only 1 set has showed up. the other 2 are still MIA with no reply from the dealer. They dont even have a phone number i can call. Order was placed december 12th sooo....not sure WTF is going on. I may just ask to cancel the order and ill skip the bushings for this season. Kinda annoying as I already received 1 set of bushings. DUMB

I guess the next update will be when we hit the dyno. Hoping to be on the dyno sometime early april. First event of the season is May 4th and i am trying to make it!

You don't even run a space heater?

Only reason I’m out there is out of hate for this weather. The hate fuels me. Keeps me warm. I hate winter lol.

There isn’t a great place to stick a space heater. I thought about it but meh

My old house my weight bench was in the unheated basement. Same not really room for a space heater but I would flip one on in the middle of the room for like twenty minutes before I got down there just to keep the cold from killing my motivation

I have a small space heater i use for one of the rooms in my house. It actually cranks out heat pretty well. Thought about bringing it to the garage and even just having it under the car but once i got in there and closed the garage door...15-20 minutes later and it was actually totally OK in there. I was surprised considering its been -20 for the last week or so in the garage it seems to be above freezing.

The bummer is anytime i do open the garage door i lose all the heat. Not much i can do about that.

While i was bleeding coolant on tuesday it was -10(14f) feels like -19(-2.2f). I was just sitting inside the car, blower motor cranked and of course it was blowing ice cold air at me. That, plus having to lay on the garage floor and squeeze the lower rad hose...this SUCKED lol. Took about an hour or just over

yea ive got one layer of cardboard on the floor. Every spring/winter i replace it as it gets beat up.
The current cardboard is pretty thin now but i keep pieces everywhere for laying on. It definitely helps a ton
