I will be starting my head work soon. I was looking at the head last night to see what I need to work on. Can anyone tell me if the area in the pics below is there for a reason. I guess what I’m wanting to make sure of is that there is no water jacket or passage of any kind that I’m going to run in to if I grind this area out and blend it. 0431D43C-BB7E-453E-A296-801CBA09BB6B.jpeg 4395D9BB-8C29-44F6-91A2-AC39CC1983B5.jpeg

I think it matches the smaller runner on the intake mani.
It's also where the gains are if you do bowl work.

Yeah as far as possible without compromising the head.

So from what it looks like those seat need to go deeper and will require new seat,,,correct?

That a practice head, or are you gonna fix the exhaust seats somehow?

Also full disclosure I've never done headwork myself, but I have a head on my car that has work done.

Yeah i dint mess with those grooves we have 1 in each cylinder,,i figured its for the flow related

Ill have the shop re inspect it,if not i got a good one i can start again,,id like to use it if and record the data and do the other one deeper so we have reference to compare,,if he says need new seat i will definately get some.

I do a lot of head porting. Just never done one of these heads. I just wanted to make sure when I start taking out metal in that area , I wasn’t going to run in to an unexpected SURPRISE. I’m trying to find a junk head (cheap) so I can play on the flow bench and see what works the best before I start porting the head I’m going to use.

You never wanna port the floor and if you're planning on connecting both intake ports together you'll wanna leave some of the split to allow air to properly divert. Last thing you want is it to slam into the split at the last second. Better to thin it out closer to the flange surface and knife edge it there while opening the roof up.

On the first one i did i may have just a littoe to smoothen out the burr, this one im working on i will take the whole middle part out and will not do the floor as u say thanks FD4A44C5-328E-4DC8-A9E5-33329828549A.jpeg

Here the first head i did,,second ine will be more polish BD600851-F8D9-4738-BCAD-73095895653C.jpeg

I see what u mean the little bump will divert the air in 2 ways, right in the middle of the spray pattern

Don't use tape. What you need to get is layout fluid and a spare gasket

This is the stuff. Dykem Steel Blue layout fluid.

Get the small bottle with a brush. You'll paint it on the flange surface and allow to dry. Then take your gasket and a exacto knife or pick to scribe the inside of the gasket area where there is space between the gasket edge and the port.

I can see where you have made the floor area at the port entrance uneven. Before you continue check how it looks with the gasket and layout fluid as you may have gone past the gasket.

You'll have an outline like this. Always go just up to the line you make but end there. Anything past it can cause a leak
