How To: VTCS Delete Relay

I don't believe this has been posted here yet, not that I've found at least. The only information is scattered and not very clear so I felt like more detailed pictures might help with a step by step. This relay should be clear any codes related to VTCS allowing you to remove the plunger and solenoid.
Required parts:
I used a Voxx 8617 relay from best buy (8616 should work as well) and a 1 A diode
Soldering iron/solder
spade terminals both male and female

1. Cut off brown lead of the relay, this is not needed.


2. Crimp your spade terminals to the red and black wires, I put the female ends on here.


3. I then took cut a small opening in the wire insulation on the red wire to expose the copper. Solder the diode on to the wire like this. Polarity matters so pay attention.



4. Do the same for the black wire.


5. Heat shrink or wrap with electrical tape.
6. Cut the plug off of the plunger that senses if the valves are open or not. (not the one from the harness leave that on the car.)
7. Solder that plug onto the orange and yellow wires from the relay, polarity does not matter. Heat shrink or electrical tape again.


8. Now go to the car and cut this plug off, this is the plug that goes into the VTCS solenoid, the black box on the intake manifold.


9. Put your male spade terminals onto these wires


10. Now plug everything in:
Red wire from relay -> Green wire on harness going to solenoid
Black wire from relay -> Black wire on harness going to solenoid
Orange and yellow should just plug straight into the matching plug where the plunger originally went

I've had this for a few hundred miles and the light has not come on once. Just tuck everything out of the way and you should be good to go.

For sure interested in this as I plan to move to the Corksport intake mani and still need to pass emissions here in IL.

 

Just leave the black box plugged in and zip ties out of the way

 

I am not against this solution either. I want whatever works the best and is most reliable.

 

Oops sorry first post here. I had a feeling that wasn't quite right, should be fixed now though.

I ended up breaking mine which is why I went this route, also a little cleaner solution since the relay is much smaller. I've run it for a few hundred miles now with no problems.
