    Actually you nailed it!!!
Pulled my first speed engine and was removing a couple of hangers.. wires, hoses and of course the ram had a very slow leak down...
Ended up using 2X4's to brace it after assembly pull but before tranny separation. Of course...only then did I remember instructions that were speedread...

Well fellas she is in her new home that she'll be in for at least a few months if not a while longer lol Going under the knife again but this time I have very high hopes and expectations of a great outcome! Especially in the clean engine bay category if nothing else as I am sick of my filthy engine bay!

Played bumper cars with my truck to get her in. You do what you have to though and she's there and that's what matters right? Haha

Anyone following my build saga who knows what I described happened leave a comment of what your guess is that has happened and what not (good or bad obviously).

Well guess I didn't technically post I don't think so here is what happened.....

Was racing a guy and couldn't run him down the first go around with him getting the hit. Next light I ripped off the line, smashing gears and all that and as soon as I grabbed 4th gear (to continue winning this time lol) my car free revved pretty high as I was smashing the gas obviously. Checked to make sure I was in gear, gave it gas again lighter and still nothing but a free revv.

As I am rolling at 100mph trying to figure out what just happened, I put it into 6th and feel it catch, then 5th it catches and this is with no gas just decel. I finally realize that my car is now dead and I am just coasting.

Small bits of oil or some liquid appeared to be splotchy across the engine bay. Tried one time to crank for a second to just see if it would crank and all I heard was the starter spinning but that is it. Got home with it and after 2 weeks + of not looking at it I go to crank over the motor by hand and realize now that my crank bolt was very loose and not near tight enough to turn the motor over as it spun off. So here we are now with so far no indication visually of what happened really so idk.

Did you kill the synchros on 4th? Only thing I can think of that would let it free rev in only 4th.

Definitely think 4th gear is gone and you mentioned your crank bolt was loose so I think you may have skipped timing possibly as well. I think your top and bottom end should be okay.

Got the front clip pulled off after draining coolant and got most of the wiring harness stuff unhooked. Time to drain the rest of the fluids today and unhook driveshaft. After that there really isn't much else to unhook before pulling this baby!!

Seems like everything has an oily residue but definitely was like that before this happened as I had a couple annoying leaks I will be addressing this time. So main thought is broke 4th gear and possibly came out of time and if not I'm a very lucky man. Any other guesses? Lol

    She's out! :)

    IMG_20220304_202934327_HDR.jpg

I have my 8 hour welding class tomorrow but might crack the trans off the motor and see if I see anything at least. I'll keep you guys posted when I find the issue.

My slower spool times could possibly be from an exhaust leak I found where the turbo bolted to the manifold. Looks like the gasket was blown out.
    IMG_20220304_115231777.jpg

My T-Case drain plug had some interesting junk magnetized to it that wasn't a great sign lol
    IMG_20220303_153303339.jpg

Axles were pretty rough too as the boot was ripped badly on one and they are oem so possibly 230k on them. That's all I have discovered so far though.

This is looking all too familiar lol :( I am just glad that I have the money to fix it and do everything I want to the car. I am probably only giving it this one last chance at life though as it is going to be expensive and time consuming lol

Anyway, I finally got time to pull the trans off the motor and the clutch assembly off and nothing is sending red flags really yet. There was some oil in the bell housing that came out whenever I pulled the trans off but that's about it. Rear main looked good so not sure how it got im there other than at the starter hole from my hpfp area leaking oil EVERYWHERE slowly but surely.

Clutch still could've slipped with how wore down it is and I think I might have flat foot shifted but can't remember. I didn't do that much ffs since I had a stock clutch. mating surface had some funk too though with a rough surface I didn't remember from last time. dark oil on the floor is what came from the bell housing. Here are some pics of the mess so far! Hopefully it isn't the motor but it is looking like it.

It is definitely close to fully worn out for sure. It didn't look hot though and wasn't fully flat so it wasn't really showing signs of an issue but idk

I just have one question. Did you manage to get any of the fluids into the drain pans or did you just use the floor? LOL

Hahaha Actually I drained a lot of the fluids but the coolant didn't drain from everything in the motor and also from in the coolant lines going into the heater core by the firewall. That's where most of the mess is from. Need some oil dry thrown down but just hadn't yet lol

I'll call in my personal assistant to come clean it all up since I'm pretty busy lol

did you see if there was valve piston contact yet?

At this point I'd just pull the head. It's going to need to be retimed anyway. You're only out a head gasket if nothing is wrong, and it'll be very clear if valves hit pistons.

Haven't been working on it much but trying to get it down to the bottom end today. I have to get some ziplock baggies just to be safe as I don't want to lose anything. Never pulled the head before myself either so I am going to be careful pulling the cams and all that. Honestly want new cams since mine are old.

I wouldn't get new cams unless yours have issues. Won't be necessary for your goals and they aren't cheap.

If his goal is to go over 500 whp then cams are probably a good idea. Power is made primarily with headwork and cams, and boost can add on to that.

I know tons of people have made 500 without cams but I also know they were working harder to get it than having a better cam. Just don't know if I am up for the task as I don't know or have ANY experience with setting up the head for them. @JohnnyTightlips I agree they are expensive and won't probably get them unless I am in too deep to care lol

Found this little tid bit after getting the crank pulley off finally. There was a lot of bur problems on the very end of the crank that wouldn't let it come off but that is taken car of now :)

    IMG_20220312_185540417_HDR.jpg

Valves looked good just trying to see them through the exhaust and intake ports but I will have the head off soon to know 100% for sure what had happened or not happened.
