I have a 2013 mazdaspeed 3. I just replaced my temperature thermostat because it was throwing code p0128. I took it for a small drive to see if the thermostat worked right after I was all done. And my temperature got up to 225. Does anyone know what might be going on with it. The temperature was staying below 215 before I put the new one in.

There may still be air pockets in the system. These engine are a bit difficult to burp and I find I still need to add some coolant daily for about 3 days after working on the cooling system. As long as the car isnt overheating, just take it easy.

The process to burp the coolant system is get it up to temp. Then sit at 3k RPM for ~2 minutes, then blip to 4k. Rinse and repeat a few times.

If you have air in the system, and you give it the beans (even a little) temp reading is going to spike up like you are describing.
