First off I just want to say hello, im new to the forum after seeing that the msf is down again.

My mazdaspeed runs great, the only thing i noticed is that the engine becomes severely heat soaked when the car sits and idles for longer than a period of 5 minutes or so. Not a huge deal because after a few minutes of driving again, the heat soak goas away (as expected from the cool fresh air blowing over the TMIC)...

anyway Im only asking to see if any of you who have been a part of the platform for awhile has any tips or advice to mitigate this issue?

cold air intake is not an option for me as i am in California and there are no CAI that are carb approved (that i know of)

Thank you in advance for your time and taking a look.

    Perfectly normal.

No life changing tips either. A better TMIC will cool faster, but might heat soak a few seconds faster too.

Dont stress it too much unless your BAT's remain high once you've started moving and temps have had a chance to stabilize.

    Thanks for the reply,

Good to know it's normal, when I first got the car about half a year ago, I was totally amazed by the explosive power when I first drove it. So, naturally when the heat soak happened for the first time and I didnt understand what it was yet, I thought there was something wrong with the car cause it really makes a lot more power when the intake temps are low, the difference is pretty insane between 70f and 120f!

But it quickly gains the power back after a few minutes of driving, I see the power drop always coincides with the intake temps getting high while at a stand still for long periods, so im pretty sure thats what it is.

Car runs hot, coollant temp gets higher than expected before rad fans evens kick in 220f? Of i recall correctly. Welcome to the club.

Edit: heating up the intercooler is the nature of the beast when you have it mounted on top of the engine with no airflow. Which is why you see it drop down do quickly with driving. Even a Fmic will heatsoak eventually
