To start off I am a heavy equipment mechanic so be gentle I am a novice with most of this lol. So I just bought a 2007 MS3 with a blown engine. I have an engine out of a 2010 MS3 that a buddy gave me from his wrecked 2nd Gen speed. I have noticed the following differences. the 2007 has Power steering pump the 2010 does not, the AC compressor lines hookups are in different locations on the compressor, and looks like the engine harness is the same with the exception of a single wire hookup for the power steering and the difference in the plug for the fuse panel under the hood. I plan on swapping the ac compressor, installing the power steering and harness from the gen 1 engine to the gen 2 engine. Anything else anyone knows of that is different or needs to be changed? According to my research it appears the 2010 ECM is better than the 2007. The ECM plugs are the same. Is the 2010 module compatible with the 2007 harness?

Just use the block. Electrical is not backwards compatible

Swap all your accessories over, as you've pointed out ac and power steering is different so definitely toss those on, gen2 has electric power steering so no bueno there.

As bunny said you can't use the gen2 ECU you're stuck with the one that came with the car.

Otherwise everything else is the same, would recommend cleaning the injectors and hpfp as part of your swap depending on how your buddy maintained it

Engine is in and running! So the 1st gen and 2nd gen fuel rail/injector harness is the same but all the other parts of the harness need to be changed. Power steering and ac compressor were used off the 1st gen engine. Used the 2nd gen transmission as well. Several brackets were different as well but nothing major. I do have another question though, the gentleman I bought the 1st gen from had a cobb access port on the car. When I first start the car it goes to high idle for about 15 seconds spudders a bit then calms back down and runs fine. Has some black smoke when revving. My buddies Velo has fuel tune and does this exact thing with his fuel tune. Is it possible to leave a fuel tune in the car without the access port installed? Does the access port intercept the messages to the ecu or actually hard write them?

Accessport does not need to be connected once the tune has been loaded to the ECU. However there are some features when it is connected (Logging, sensor monitoring etc). The accessport is a flash tuning device and rewrites the parameters for the car.
Your start issues might be normal for the startup, as long as the engine isnt sputtering because it is missing. Using the Accessport you can "log" the startup, upload it here and someone here can take a look. The car also needs some run time to learn and stabilize things like idle and fuel trims.

    Glad she's running

I'd be very cautious running the POs tuner given the blown engine, who's the tuner listed on the map? If it's drama tune definitely time for a re tune

He took and sold the access port before I bought the car, so I currently do not have one to pull that info. So I have several things to straighten out after my first drives (squishy brakes and a vibration over 50 that feels like a unbalanced wheel) but who should I buy an access port from the day that comes? I assume depending on who you buy it from depends on the tunes right? (That's how my auto agent for my 6.7 was). This car also has a catless downpipe with a straight pipe all the way back making the warmup idle ever more rowdy.

He took the accesport but left the car ECU tuned? Or did he uninstall it? Because if took it and uninstalled it from the ECU then that would have put the stock tune back on. If he didn't uninstall it then it's locked to your vin and he can't exactly resell or use it.

As for where to buy it realistically you can buy it from any vendor as any tuner can send you maps for it. I would suggest buy from freektune directly as he will give you a free ots+ map where he does a MAF cal for your can and 1-2 revisions. I ran one for years and it drove great. Please don't run the Cobb ots maps as they're dogshit for our platform

I'm not sure if he did an uninstall or not. He has ghosted all my attempts to ask questions on this car and unfortunately I didn't know what to ask when I bought it. I figured he would have uninstalled it for resale. That's good info because everywhere I look Cobb maps are what I find. Thanks for all the help!

There are no good free maps available for download. You will need to pay for a tune

Freektune does offer a package for a basic tune when you buy the accessory through them
