Alright, one of the biggest projects I needed to get done this weekend. Cleaning the valves.

    Here we go.

    Update:

As usual, I've been trying to multi task. Trying to clean the garage and organize every time I try to work on the car. It has in turn caused the working on the car to slow a bit, but it is still more than since I bought this car nearly 5 years ago now.

So here we go. Dirty work space on one side, clean storage/clean computer space. getting closer. Still need to insulate and rock the other wall then insulate the roof, plan on putting in a stand alone heat/ac unit so I can have a temp controlled space.
    20240224_173847.jpg 20240224_173855.jpg

    Moving on:
Since this was a used motor for temp/trial reasons, I still want to have it function even once a built goes in. Valve cleaning is a must at this point. I hate this part. CS did great by us with this tool.

    20240224_175844.jpg 20240224_175849.jpg 20240224_175852.jpg 20240224_175853.jpg 20240224_175859.jpg 20240224_175933.jpg 20240224_175935.jpg 20240224_175937.jpg

The lady at HF had to make sure I knew that the moment I paid for this walnut media it was non returnable... No shit. lol

    20240224_181717.jpg 20240224_181724.jpg 20240224_181733.jpg

Little break with some in between pictures

    20240224_192702.jpg 20240224_193105.jpg

Personal recommendation. You should have all of these tools as well.

    20240224_193335.jpg

And this fancy device, was recommended by a friend, cut zapstraps in the gun with a hose around them to keep them together for a make shift brush that turned out to speed up the process.

    20240224_194928.jpg

This is what the zip ties do, they gum all the carbon up into a ball and make it easier to pick out

    20240224_210934.jpg 20240224_213950.jpg 20240224_220733.jpg 20240224_195320.jpg

Not perfect by any means, but this will do just fine.

    20240224_221804.jpg 20240224_221806.jpg 20240224_221811.jpg 20240224_221814.jpg 20240224_221824.jpg 20240224_233026.jpg

I have acquired a hand full of fuel pumps, three are damaged, one has CS internals in it already, and one is an almost perfectly fine unit minus the lock on the spill valve to hold the fuel pump on is broken off.

Ideally, I'm going to build a fairly fresh fuel pump, and Have one on the side as a spare, both will have CS internals. The rest of the parts will go in one of these Fancy CS boxes I got for a maybe never seen by the light of day again.

All prepped and ready for efforts first thing in the morning after a Dump run and some chores around the house.

    20240224_234413.jpg

THIS CAR WILL RUN TOMORROW! I hope lol. I still have a ton of work to do before I can start back up and isolate these issues. Until next time.

Got your clown suit on boys, here we go. I'll update later with everything I've done. But here is the issue.

    20240225_185407.jpg
    20240225_185407.jpg

Car sometimes will start, when se does, it's really rough idle. Unplug TB, she'll balance out a little bit not much. Have tried three different throttle bodies and no change.

Tried two different pedal assemblies and no change.

Tried clearing the codes with a snap on scan tool. Tells me the same thing the AP does.

Tried swapping out the neutral safety switch. No change.

Tested the entire abs system, throttle system. Fuel system. Made sure every single thing was plugged in. Unplugged and plugged things in. The only thing that changes anything is unplugging the throttle body.

    Thoughts?

Photo dump, will update with notes later.

I made two good pumps out of four. One with just CS internals I threw in a bag for a backup, and one with a full rebuild with seals and filters. I got really lucky and found a pump in a car that came through work. Didn't expect the internals to be CS.
    20240225_125355.jpg 20240225_125400.jpg 20240225_125403.jpg 20240225_125407.jpg 20240225_125747.jpg 20240225_125805.jpg 20240225_131300.jpg 20240225_131305.jpg 20240225_131608.jpg

Some of the basic cleaning tools.
    20240225_135003.jpg

    And the full rebuild
    20240225_135006.jpg 20240225_135808.jpg 20240225_135825.jpg 20240225_141258.jpg 20240225_141716.jpg 20240225_143533.jpg 20240225_150622.jpg 20240225_150635.jpg 20240225_151050.jpg

The filter on the PRV was... Non existent to say the least.
    20240225_151714.jpg

CS battery box with some... Upgrades of course.
    20240225_163219.jpg 20240225_163420.jpg 20240225_163425.jpg 20240225_163429.jpg 20240225_170227.jpg 20240225_174108.jpg

The JBR 3.5" is a tight fit for sure. I should have gone with a smaller box. But this will just have to do.
    20240225_175444.jpg

She runs, but something is a miss, see previous post a couple up to see diagnostics.

Pictures of all codes to have popped.

    And proof she runs!

So after some fluke diagnostics. Tested all grounds. Checked wires at TB. Will have to get a second hand (aka wife) tomorrow to properly meter the wife's from TB to ECM and Throttle to ECM.

Ran out of free time tonight. Gonna study these a little bit more and go at it again tomorrow.

Finally got the car to start and die. It will idle a little bit. I am now showing no fuel rail pressure. And now TMPS being called out for the same code as the ABS. I reseated the ECU connectors, swapped and tried out another fuel pressure sensor on the rail. There was absolutely no pressure. I am wondering if the PRV is possibly bad. Tested the in tank pump and confirmed I am getting fuel from the tank.

Took a couple logs and hoping to see something else. I am personally not very good with reading logs and diagnosing that way. Much more mechanical and hands on than a tuner.

    Codes right now are:
    PCM
    P2122
    P0403
    P0193
    IC
    U2064
    TPMS
    U2023
    ABS
    U2023

    20240228_193104.jpg
I am leaning towards the possibility that the engine harness could be damaged as well. So I got another one from work.

Replace the engine bar 1 fuse for shits and giggles.

P0192, 2122, egr, coil packs, throttle body and more are all tied to that fuse

My old Juan had similar issues. Threw a lot of the same codes. It ended up being the crank position sensor harness was rubbing the passenger axle and shorting. It would pop the engine bar 1 fuse but when it didn't pop the fuse, it ran like shit.

EGR is MIA anyways, so that's an expected one right now. I'll try that out and see what happens.

    Update:

@Raider and I have come to the conclusion that Lilith has some form of demon possessing her.

Per the recommendation of @Sho I not only replaced the bar 1 fuse for giggles, I metered every single fuse in the car to ensure none of them are blown. We are good to go there, moving on.

After a few days of trouble shooting this week, I was able to discover some issues that needed addressed. Swapped some things out that... needed replaced. And have been ran through the shop manuals a few times. Some progress, but still sitting, not running properly.

    Lets go:
Some @JBR gear showed up. Wont be installing suspension items till coils and sway bars arrive, waiting on those to be in stock. I honestly don't know if i will need the spacers or not with the EVO X wheels I have, always good to have. The air dam will have to wait as well. I have some... plans that will come later.
    20240228_194513.jpg

Gonna drop some weight off that rotational assembly, because why not have some vibes to go with the DM mounts.
    20240229_192604.jpg

As stated earlier, I have been having a handful of issues, that I am assuming at this point to be wiring. After some more testing and inspecting. I am now more certain that it is the harness, I just can't seem to figure out exactly where its at. I do have an idea though.

I found one of the signal wires on my secondary o2 sensor was grounded out... I'm pretty sure that got buggered up when I put the motor in. So replaced that with another I had laying around. That helped the car idle a little better but did not fix the fueling problem I am having.

    20240302_131603 - Copy.jpg 20240302_131558 - Copy.jpg

While testing after this the in tank pump finally gave out. Swapped that out with a known good pump from my MS6. Installed a new filter as well. I have this other pump that will get a new DW300 and filter once those arrive along with a new pump housing lock ring and o-ring from Mazda.
    20240302_144401 - Copy.jpg

If you have never done this... I nearly had a panic attack trying to make the decision on if I drop the tank, or cut the chassis... SEND IT! Better get it over with now, than wasting the time dropping the tank knowing I am going to have to do this again very soon.

    20240302_144722 - Copy.jpg 20240302_150451 - Copy.jpg 20240302_150455 - Copy.jpg 20240302_151141 - Copy.jpg

It took me about 10 minutes to cut it open and nearly an hour to get the damn ring off.

    20240302_161044 - Copy.jpg

    FINALLY!

    20240302_163111 - Copy.jpg 20240302_163611 - Copy.jpg

Now, considering this is the original pump with 133k on it. It sat in the same 5 gallons of gas from 2015 until this last November. I would say these pumps are pretty stout. I am shocked at how little junk there was in the bucket too.

    20240302_163633 - Copy.jpg 20240302_164101 - Copy.jpg 20240302_164446 - Copy.jpg 20240302_164450 - Copy.jpg 20240302_164454 - Copy.jpg 20240302_164458 - Copy.jpg 20240302_164502 - Copy.jpg 20240302_164742 - Copy.jpg

    Don't forget yer lube boys

    20240302_164810 - Copy.jpg 20240302_164926 - Copy.jpg 20240302_164935 - Copy.jpg 20240302_165117 - Copy.jpg 20240302_165254 - Copy.jpg 20240302_165502 - Copy.jpg

Lube up that ring for easy install and removal later

    20240302_165748 - Copy.jpg 20240302_165952 - Copy.jpg

Filter was def not the worst I have seen, considering how long it sat. But, got her swapped out and flowing again to continue trouble shooting.

    20240302_170741 - Copy.jpg 20240302_170838 - Copy.jpg 20240302_170844 - Copy.jpg

So I finally got fuel pressure to show up by complete accident. I swapped out the fuel pressure sensor, forgot to plug it in, and somehow, the AP read fuel pressure. I plugged the sensor back in... No pressure. This is the moment I think I have realized the car is possessed. BUT! that is good news, as this is finally some good proof to show a physical issue that has been seen and proven. This gives me a pretty good idea where to go from here. I believe the main engine harness is good, but am starting to suspect the coil or injector harness to be bad.

    20240302_175942.jpg

Until next time, Lilith sleeps more

I'm surprised that pinched o2 wire and some of those exposed wires didn't pop the engine bar 1 fuse!

Def replace the injector harness. My 6 had an issue where fuel pressure would dip to single digits or 0 while driving and would cause the car to buck and misfire under idle and low load cruising. The plug for the fuel pressure sensor on the rail was the culprit. Swapped the injector harness and was good to go
