Meh, it's not bad. I've been working 12hr+ days since I was in the Navy at 19. 55hrs isn't fun by any means. But it's about my minimum hours.

Got me feeling spoiled af over here. Only do 9-5 or 8-4 now M-F with on call. Occasionally will get 45 or so from that. Did 12's for about a year and a half when I lived in Knoxville but still was only 40 hours total a week. How long did you do Navy? Or are you still active?

I joined at 19 in '06, got out in '11. That was mostly 12 on 12 off when deployed, when not deployed and at home I worked nights for that entire time. So nights at home was "STAY CHECK" which means you stayed till the work was done. Staet at 330pm and you could leave as early as 6pm if the work was done, or stay until day chack relieved you at 6am the next morning.

I got out after my 5 years. It was more than I expected but I wish every day I never got out.

Is the Iraq war what you were deployed for? That seems to be a common trend. I've had several veteran coworkers and almost all of them, both younger and older, say they wish they never left.

Yup. I deployed on the carrier as an aviation electronics technician and did a stint in balad Iraq working on the phalanx cannon.

I miss the flight deck the most a long with the comradery. This community helped me with the comradery but after we lost the old forum so much happened. It was hard to stay in touch.

    But things are getting better.

Just looked up the phalanx cannon and learned it fires over 3,000 rounds per minute. So, you practically were working on a bullet laser is what you are saying.. :tearsofjoy:

Is the old community the blue/white page that I randomly come across sometimes when looking stuff up? There seems to be some good comradery here. Hope it returns to it's former glory for you, though.

It'd be hard to find a central location but it'd be cool to have a car meet with members of the forum. Is that something ya'll have ever done before?

By comradery he means butt sex. It was the navy after all

There is a group that goes to the tail of the dragon once a year

The reality is that as these cars get older there are just fewer of us

Ah, the good ole tail of the dragon. That's cool, I'm down to do that. I'll keep an eye out on here for when that goes down. Only about 6 hours from me. Sad reality but it makes sense. I'm going to keep on looking for em though you can bet your ass lol

Lots of butt stuffs. That's also the Nator way lololol.

I worked on the c-ram, which is the land based version.

Old community, I believe is what you speak of. Things got wild people got mad. It was the wild West of the forums.

We used to have multiple annual meets. Epic East Coast Nator Meat, Mega Nator Meat, tail of the Dragon, Midwest Nator Meat, west coast meets. It used to be insane. We'd meet guys from as far south as Miami Florida, a guy flew in from Mexico, they drove up from the south and met up with us in Richmond while we drove from Virginia Beach. Then we all convoyed up to DC or NJ or DE.

Those days are long gone. But some of the PNW guys still meet like that. We have Mazda takeover in Boise Idaho every June. Then Corksport does their meet in the fall. And I think there's another in Portland. But don't remember.

But as @Easter Bunny said, these cars are getting old. And the youth are beating the crap out of them to the point that they have been devalued them.

    How'd you know?

I might have a set of dolphins in a box somewhere...not to mention a father that was navy in the 80s...
Shellback refers to a sailor that has crossed the equator and participated in the line crossing ceremony...some have been known to have excessive hazing.

I should have known you was a bubble head.

Hazing... Naaa, that's pure abuse. But wasn't as bad as when I put on E-4 on the boat. I won't go into detail... But let's just say I was black and blue from the waste up to the top of my ear on my left side and may have been duct taped to an office chair and hoisted to the angle iron for 24hrs.

    The... "Good ole days".

Oh I'm not a bubble head, just got given someone's dolphins and have them in my shadow box. I've been around long enough to hear about the goings on from multiple navies around the world. Yeah abuse is more accurate even that doesn't cover it.

It's the brotherhood that came with it. I'm all for hazing within reason. It builds comradery and you know who you can and can't count on based on that. In the military some positions, you absolutely have to be able to count on the fact that the guy next to you knows what he is doing and that you don't have to question if what he is doing is gonna get someone killed.

But, I will say, I was 100% beaten. It went over board. But at the time, I didn't know any better.

But yeah, the comradery, brotherhood, trust and respect you got from those around you. It's just something you can't create in the civilian side of life. And unfortunately that reality is what causes most veterans to end their lives.

Sorry, I'm getting carried away and we're way off track.

    How's the car?

It definitely sounds like something that can't be recreated on the civ side and as you said, it leads many to a dark place. The stats are horrifying.

And no worries, I'm always here for the stories and the sentiments from vets. But, for the car, we are on hold at the moment. Edge showing new parts not showing up until this coming Wednesday so I am going to find some shit to get into this weekend with the kiddos to keep me distracted from this god damn thing. Lol. The weather is supposed to be fantastic this entire week so should be able to take off the day of and get it done. Wby dude? You get anything done on yours??

P.s IDK if any of you guys are into UFC but there's an awesome card tonight. I usually stream the fights for free in my discord. if anyone wants to pop in discord and watch or wants a link to the site for watching it rather than paying the PPV bs just shoot me a dm

I got all sorts of stories for sure. Stats are disgusting.

I just photo dumped this morning. Was up till 3am last night working on getting the new harness on, Damond PCV plate, Water Manifold and occ kit. Almost ready to start up.

Playing DND right now with some friends then out to the garage to keep chugging away. It's going to be nice here. I feel you trying to take time away and clear your head. Sometimes its too much.

I do enjoy some UFC, but this car is priority. Trying to make it to the season opener car show on April 20th.

Nice! You were busy as a mf last night. I'll check out the photo dump here in a few. And yea taking a step back has been nice, honestly. Been hard to maintain patience but feeling refreshed to go back in after a few days away. Grabbed a double din screen display and some aftermarket speakers as well to sling in there for s&gs.

What meet is on 4/20?! Sounds like my kind of place :tearsofjoy:
