I had a P0012 engine light (camshaft Timing overretarded). We believe to have fixed it, the check engine light is gone even after 5 drive cycles, but on my acsessport when I read codes it’s still there. Is the issue still there or is it maybe a history check?

Have you tried clearing the code with the access port and seeing if it comes back? Typically there is a history you can see but not with the accesport you'd need a bigger scan tool afaik

Yes I have cleared it twice, but it comes back. Even though the dash light does not

What's your mileage and when was vvt serviced if it keeps coming back and you've replaced sensor it'd suspect timing is off

19k on dash…but it’s a freshly built motor. Just finished it.

well reading the shop manual sounds like timing is >10 deg off or one of the following:
    OCV malfunction
    • Spool valve in OCV is stuck in advanced position
    • Variable valve timing mechanism malfunction
POSSIBLE - Variable valve timing mechanism misinstallation
CAUSE - Loose timing chain or improper valve timing due to timing chain slippage
    • Stopper pin mechanism malfunction
    • Variable valve timing mechanism is stuck in advanced position
    • PCM malfunction

I'd say it's time to break into that timing cover and check it out

    THIS!!

Check timing, spin crank 4-6 full cycle rotations to TDC, then check again, then do it once more for verification. If that is not the issue, check you cam sensor and see if there is any debris causing issues, sometimes (not often) new builds can have a little more wear that would catch on the magnetic sensors. (doubtful)

@Alec did you find any other issues with this one?
I'm in a similar situation, have replaced ocv, replaced cam cap and camshaft, replace the vvt actuator and redone timing, oil pressure checks out fine but still persistent p0012.
Needing to test wiring now otherwise it's a head replacement as there was a small mark inside the intake cam journal.

Did you ever solve this? I’m in a similar boat. New engine, replaced same things and still haven’t been able to solve it.

Probably. Was told this occasionally happened to new engine builds, but would go away over time. 2000 miles later and it’s still hanging around. Not sure if that’s true or how long it would take for that to clear if so.
