Who Would Be Interested In Getting Oil Tested?

Hey guys so here's the deal. I have access to a fluid analysis lab where I can test oils and their properties for things such as true viscosity, flash point, cold and hot differences (from -35F to 300+F), etc.

I can test pretty much any fluid: engine oils, gear oils, brake fluids, coolants, fuels. I'm going to keep this to just oil for now as I don't want to overextend myself until I know I have some free time for other stuff.

So, if there's a certain oil you would like tested here's what you need to do:
1. Buy 1 quart of desired oil (I can't test used oil)
2. Insert said quart into shipping container
3. Ship to my address
4. Wait until I can get it tested and post the results

I'm hoping to make a table/chart of oils for things such as flash point and viscosity vs temp and anything else that may be of interest. I'm mostly interested in gear oils as I feel there's a bit less information out there about them but it would be cool to get some solid data on commonly used engine oils too. Anyway, if this is of interest to you let me know.

Do you need an entire quart?

No. 1/4 quart would probably be enough. Just needs to be in a sealed container.

Is this the same info at the bottom of the UOA Blackstone provides?

 

Similar. Blackstone is more for "how is your oil fairing with your engine/drivetrain" whereas this would be more of a "what oil best suits your needs" test. Blackstone is testing your used oil and telling you what is foreign in it and how it's changed from new. This would be more of a what is wrong that's being advertised (eg some 5w-30 oils aren't actually 5w-30) and getting info on oils that don't have much published info out there (hence why I'm more interested in gear oils, as engine oils tend to have lots of results out there already whereas gear oils generally just have the specs that they meet). I'm also more interested in gear oils because I want to get test some OE oils (like Ford MTX, Mitsu Diaqueen, GM Synchromesh) and see how they stack up against preferred gear oils (Redline/Amsoil/Motul/etc).

 

I have some Tribodyn 5w-30 that I would love for you to check out. There is little info out there on this oil, but not much honestly. I will be pming you very soon.
