Wanted to run a few ideas by the members here on some thoughts I had regarding minor mods and updates for the MS6 platform. These are things I’ve either found mention of on this forum or others through searching. But I know the old MazdaSpeedForums website is defunct and a few of you on here were on that site so you may be able to tell me the answer used to exist somewhere over in that community.

TLDR synopsis at bottom with questions for those not interested in the thought process.

    Bose Audio:
“No highs, no lows must be Bose.” I come from an RX8 with the Bose system and there is some documentation on mods that can improve the quality decently without having to spend copious amounts of money on an entire system. I would consider myself a moderate audiophile so I added Bluetooth, replaced the tweeters with the recommended silk dome ones, and did some dynamat work on my RX8 and it sounded better. Less listening fatigue and a smoother blend of the highs with more detail (I could finally hear the plucking in Santana tracks).

I’ve noticed my MS6 has the same issues, I get listening fatigue very quick and don’t have a direct Bluetooth adapter installed yet so all the Bose issues are amplified by the terrible EQ built into the system when set to AM/FM. I dynamatted the rear doors while removing clogs from my door drains, and plan to do the fronts soon… but damn the tweeters in this car are harsh and dropping the high EQ setting on the head unit even -1 removes nearly all the detail. My thoughts are that they used the same crummy electrolytic capacitors like on the RX8. A better chemical or film cap may fix the issue, but I also really like the smoothness and detail of silk domes.

On to the sub-bass. The low EQ setting above 0 just creates muddy mid-bass. Again -1 just smears the detail. From searching it appears this is the same 9” 0.5ohm “subwoofers” found in the doors of the RX8 Bose system; however, the amplifier and crossover network on the MS6 driver is physically different, so it may be different than the remote amps used for the RX8 doors. Now the RX8 doors speakers actually bump pretty hard, and my thought was to maybe just get a spare RX8 door driver and swap it. The mounting pattern looks identical, but the RX8 part looks to be designed to have more excursion and a larger magnet. This leads me to believe the remote amp and x-over for that RX8 has more RMS wattage available and has a lower roll off which could be a possible upgrade. Now I know the RX8 doors were designed around using the door as an enclosure while the MS6 is designed as an infinite baffle due to the size of the trunk. So assuming everything plays well electronically and mounts it could end up worse acoustically because of these design principles.
I did also come across a simple circuit on another forum that acts as a passive switching pre-amp to boost lower frequencies which has some good reviews, but there were some people saying it would cutout randomly likely from thermal throttle after extended use.

    Questions:
    1. Are there any recommended tweeter to replace the ones in the sail panels?
    2. Has anybody tried using 9” 0.5ohm “subwoofers” from other Bose equipped vehicles to improve bass reproduction?
    3. Would you rather have fingers for toes and toes for fingers? Or change biological sex every time you sneeze?

I'm no audio expert but I would check Crutchfield out. They have audio stuff.

Also fingers for toes. So I can pick up stuff. And I would totally never leave the house as boobies.
