I don't plan on replacing mine. But a lot of people can't stand a plastic manifold. A buddy of mine showed me this

Well, they don't hold heat like metal ones, and they tend to be lighter.

And it's black already. Which goes with my black/white engine bay lol. Yes, definitely lighter and easily available/replaceable.

Probably less than 1/4 the cost too.

I received the correct sized compressor today. Much earlier than expected. Holy hell that was waaaay easier. Got 3 of 4 pistons sitting nicely in their home. Too bad I bent that oil ring for #4 doof[IMG][IMG]

I just realized i did not check bearing clearances. Both mains and rods. FCK. Everything is STD size. Brand new ecoboost crank, clevite AL mains, king rod bearings, and brand new set of manley rods.

Checked my rod bearing clearances with plastigage and they were .0015 across the board. I'll tackle measuring the mains next. All 4 pistons are in now! [IMG]

Got pretty far on the build last night. Wrapped up checking my mains clearances and they were all in spec. I got the oil strainer and o ring gasket on. RTV on the pan and torqued down. I was able to get the head on and torqued as well. The stock cams are also back in.

I fear I may have over torqued the head studs though. In Kevin's video he torqued them 30, 60, 90. I followed that, but Jordan just told me it should have been 25, 50, 75 for L19s. I will probably remove the cams and retorque to 75 to be safe. [IMG]

I finally scored a good deal on a CS throttle body. I've been waiting for the right part out/price to swoop on one. The seller also included a spacer to fit the CS throttle body to the ST manifold. I didn't realize one was required until looking at the ID difference between the throttle body and manifold.

Today I had some time to run to ACE and grab the studs, nuts, and washers I found here on the "known good parts" thread to change my injector torx bolts out. I did end up reusing the conical washers by drilling the holes out bigger. I'm reusing the Overspeed injector seals as they only had 1200mi on them. I torqued them to 18.5ft lbs. Hopefully they will seal.

Right now I'm waiting on new cam gear bolts and washers to arrive from edge before I can finish up timing the motor. [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

Don't you have to modify the FOST mani to make it fit our cars?

Damond Motorsports sells a pre-modified ST manifold with adapter, not sure what changes exactly are made. Mazdaspeed3 ST Manifold PI Adapter Kit | Damond Motorsports

The throttle body also mounts vertically, so you need custom piping to reach it.

Minimally. It involves minor grinding at a couple points on the manifold to make it slide past components. When you buy an ST manifold from Damond. They arrive with these modifications done.

my point is wouldn't you also potentially have to modify the aftermarket one to make it fit as well?

Hey I just saw you are reusing the Overspeed seals. I am in the same boat as mine only have 3 K on them and my motor is out and being built.

I called Jordan and asked about reusing. He told me as long as the seals don't change position on the injector and I re-torque to I believe 25 or 26 ft-lb they will work. I saw you only went to 18.5. I'm sure you could call him to confirm.

Good looking out. Thank you. I should have asked him earlier today. He stopped by and grabbed a bottle of booze from me lol
