I was able to pull the pan and inspect a little bit. Plenty of metal shavings on the drain plug and a lot of bits of metal in the pan. I guess that's expected though. I went ahead and wiggled the rods and found all of them tight except cylinder 2. It has quite a bit of play. All the rod caps are also scorched and indicates oil starvation I'm pretty sure. It just boggles my mind when it may have occurred.

Mr. Keefover happened to be in San Diego and paid me a visit. He confirmed we'll need to replace the crank, bearings, and possibly 1 rod. Hopefully, the head is still usable. We won't know until I pull the engine and we break it down together. [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

About ready to pull this motor out. I removed the valve cover and saw a couple cam journals beginning to score. Looks like i'll need a set of cams as well. I already ordered a new crankshaft, main/rod bearings, and rods. Surprisingly cost less than i expected. I have a couple machine shops in mind where i may take the spare block, pistons, and new parts to.

And she's out. I'm getting good at this. Next is disassembly. I need to get to the pistons and remove the head to send everything to the machine shop. [IMG][IMG]

Hello pistons. Got the head off. Definitely feel some grit under the camshaft caps. Not too sure if I'll need new cams or what. I've never really been this deep into an engine myself. I'll see what the machine shop says. I'll be dropping the girdle and crank next. The block appears to be usable to the best of my knowledge. [IMG]

Thanks brother! Much appreciated. I wonder if I should change the name of my thread. Endgame setup might not be the right juju at this point lol

Got the motor broken down to the crank. My engineering brain is definitely full and satisfied. Makes me totally wonder why I didn't do this myself in the first place. Rod bearings were trashed. Crank is garbage. The girdle was in good condition though, so it looks like I can reuse this block. I packed up the Camry with everything and was denied at the pearly gates of heaven. The machine shop I choose just moved locations and told me they couldn't take on more work at the time. They took my information down and will call me when they're ready. Can anyone suggest what exactly I should be asking them to do again? [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

Take your crank, then you can get a estimate if it can be reworked. Also bearing shells. That way the shop can maybe? Give you a idea if repairable. Might be cheaper. Might help with explaining what went wrong. I'm perplexed with why that much overheating of con rod big ends. Looks like which failed first? Lube failure, but might get a different opinion too.

You sure an oil port in the crankshaft didn't get clogged with something? That could've lead to the issue with the bearing overheating. Was there work done to the crankshaft before assembly? If so maybe the machine shop didn't clean the crank well enough.

I was told it was a brand new eco boost crank from Overspeed. Remember, this is the 2nd motor from him.

Clean all the things, especially the holes for the head studs , mine were crazy dirty after a bath and all that shit. I flipped the block over and sprayed them with brake clean/compressed air and then wd40.

O yeah that's right I forgot that you purchased a built motor from them. In that case how many con rods were overheated and how many main bearings were? Only the rods?

All the rod caps were over heated. And the rod bearings were completely trashed. Mostly cylinder 2. The main bearings were all in great condition. Normal wear.

That's odd because you'd think if they overheated due to starvation or low pressure then then mains would be heated or shown signs of damage. Could the clearances of the rods be at fault or over torquing the rod caps?

I don't know what it could have been, but it's already been said Overspeed isn't covering it. And I was reminded I'm still expected to pay for the cost of this 2nd motor. That's why I'm deciding to build this next one on my own.

I don't know what else to do with my hands now. These pistons cleaned up well though with some methanol. I went ahead and replaced my inner and outer tie rods. It was a simple job and I removed what looked like oem original tie rods at 135k miles. [IMG]

If you do it in sharpie and run nothing but e85 or pure e/m then it stands a good chance of surviving and you'll have a nice surprise when you break it down again I think
